It's something from Kate's book that set me thinking and I went to the PJ files to have a read and am now a bit more puzzled than ever.

My children have brought me many sleepless nights particularly as infants where there was hunger and colic and teething. Perhaps I'm not the perfect parent (though mine were never left unattended) but I don't recall a red-letter moment ever where they had a sudden breakthrough in sleeping.

And why would you associate the wedding of your dear friend with such a memory, what happened to make this memory stand out among all others on such an occasion?

David Payne recalls the wedding in Italy as a wonderful time where everyone got together and they had "children staying there and it was such a great occasion.." What a strange memory of one's wedding for a childless groom.

Fiona Payne recalls the wedding as being a turnaround for the sleepless Madeleine. An even stranger memory for a bride.

What happened to make Madeleine's first full night of sleep so memorable?

The memories get a bit fuzzy when it comes to Jane and Ella because nobody seems to recall them attending the wedding except for Russell. So no mention of baby note comparisons or empathy or anything. So why doesn't Jane give or get a mention of Italy?

Sleep issues seem to surround these tapas friends. Who would allow their children to nap in the afternoons knowing they'd be going out in the night and leaving them unattended? And why did the twins sleep so soundly on the night of the disappearance, why as medics didn't they question it?

Did sleeping play a part in Madeleine's demise and were the others involved? Could it be that simple?

I don't have the bewk, but thats interesting about recalling the kids from the paynes wedding......It is strange that this is a memory of theirs more than the occasion itself

You allow your children nap during the day, if you want them to stay awake later into the evening time. So, say for example, on a family holiday you wanted the children to be happy and awake around 730-800 whilst you took them out for dinner, give them a nap during the day.

You do not allow your children to nap during the day if you want to ensure they will sleep when put to bed late evening / early night time.

And even taking both of the above scenarios into account, it would be considered a miracle if you managed to get three small children all asleep at the same time, at exactly the time that was convenient to you, on more than one occasion, if at all ever.

Simple parenting rule really, but of course the Tapas group were extra special parents so normal rules do not apply.....

They never mentioned the twins being drugged at the time and not until later in the payne/webster RI's, when suddenly it was the abductor who did it. Think this 'drugging the twins' affair came about after the PJ found kate mccanns father's drug medication in the villa they hired in August 2007

It seems clear that they didn't seem bothered about making sure the children would sleep while they were at the restaurant. I can't decide if this was because they had a designated babysitter or another method to ensure the children slept.
