Kate's book has now rocketed to 25th in the Amazon bestseller list.

At this rate it'll be No. 1 by about 2am in the morning.

Quite so, and as they point out - 3 days in the top 100
Immediately below "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo", which has been 909 days in the top 100.

I have been researching the way the Amazon sales positions are calculated and it is possible to create a spike in sales by "corporate purchasing" many books. This is part of a marketing strategy to get the book on the best sellers list and stimulate sales.

Not a 'new release' worthy of notice

Post by Tony Bennett on 04.05.11 7:47

Waterstones have a current leaflet for customers which lists 25 'new releases' of interest to book-readers.

'madeleine' by Kate McCann is not among them.

Isn't this what they used to do with pop records ? Janie Jones and the Payola case ? . It used to be illegal.

Just a thought.
If a McCann-believer is buying 20 copies a day, purely to push up the figures, that costs £ 200. Plus postage and packing.
Of which we calculate the Fund will be lucky to get 20 x .72p = £ 14.40
Would they not have done better to donate the £ 200 directly ?

I don't think it would surprise me very much if strategic purchasing of the book was happening. And as they are only pre-orders they could easily be cancelled before the books are sent out.

Down to 33rd

Post by Tony Bennett on 05.05.11 8:34

The pre-orders on Amazon are still doing really well, slight dip to 36th best-seller yesterday, but back up to 33rd at the moment, pre-orders are currently running at an astonishing 100 or so per day.

And that's not counting all the massive pre-orders at Waterstones, WH Smith, Costa Coffee etc.

Circulation of the '50 FACTS' leaflet is running miles ahead of the book's Amazon sales, though.

Just to cover the alleged publishers advance of £200K the publisher will need to sell 1.4m copies. How many have they sold so far and in what time, perhaps we can project the time taken to clear the advance!!! Probably around 2 years.

What happens if they don't clear the advance? Do the McCann's have to repay the publisher or is it the publisher's gamble and loss?

I say...I say That's mathematics, son! You can argue with me, but you can't argue with figures!

Post by The Rooster on 05.05.11 11:52

Hi Anna, I think it would be a non refundable advance and a risk taken by the publisher. But it would need to be cleared before any further royalties became payable i.e. if my guesstimate were correct they would need to sell 1.4m books. The publishers don't often get it wrong, they are as a rule tough in business. If they didn't think the book sales would cover the advance they wouldn't pay the advance in the first place.

Maddie's parents set to give Late Late interview

HEARTBREAK: Kate and Gerry McCann are still in the dark about what happened to daughter Madeleine
By Cormac Murphy

Thursday May 05 2011

MADELEINE McCann's parents Kate and Gerry are to appear on the Late Late Show for their first major Irish interview, the Herald can reveal.

Host Ryan Tubridy will be talking to the McCanns on Friday week as they continue their efforts to locate their missing daughter.

It is believed the interview is being timed to coincide with the publication of 43-year-old Kate's book, entitled Madeleine, which hits the shelves next week.

The 384-page work is being released on May 12, Madeleine's eighth birthday.

Kate and Gerry marked the fourth anniversary of their daughter's disappearance with family and friends this week.

The book is their account of how the youngster vanished while on a family holiday in Portugal.

Madeleine was nearly four when she went missing in Praia da Luz, Algarve, in May 2007.

The McCanns hope the publication of the book will prompt people holding vital information about what happened to come forward.

It was originally due out last week but publishers Transworld postponed the release to avoid a clash with the Royal Wedding.

The official Portuguese inquiry into Madeleine's disappearance formally ceased in July 2008. However, private detectives employed by the McCanns have continued the search for the missing child.

Liverpool-born Kate's mother Susan Healy said of the book: "Kate has to tell her story, even though it's been the most terribly painful process over the last nine months.

"We just hope that something will come from the book. It's something that may just force someone to come forward. It's also an account for Madeleine and for the twins [six-year-old Sean and Amelie]."

Proceeds from the sales will also help boost their dwindling fund to search for their daughter.

The book, which Kate wrote without the aid of a ghost writer, has a recommended retail price of around €22 and is expected to become a best-seller.

Extracts will be serialised by newspapers from this weekend before the book is published.

A family friend described how Kate wrote through the day, while the couple's twins were at school, and then returned to her study to write late into the evening after the children had gone to bed.

The McCanns hope sales of the book will raise more than £1m (€1.1m) for Madeleine's fund.

The book's launch will be accompanied by several television interviews, including the Late Late appearance.

When Clarence Mitchell was on The Late Late Show it was a disaster..... the audience was totally unsympathetic to his McCann mantra..... and he was asked some very awkward questions such as "Well would you leave your children alone?" I think he sheepishly replied something like 'our parenting styles are different.'

i hope they explain to the late late show just how they are entirly innocent when whatever happened to Madeleine is 100% the result of their actions
M didnt ask to be left alone in the dark doesn't matter about the fantasy abductor story doesn't matter about trying to blame the police the dogs or whoever
all that matters here is the parents

The end for this forum?

Post by Tony Bennett on 06.05.11 8:09

Triumph!

The book is 7th on Amazon this morning and climbing.

This increases the profits, increases The Fund, and no doubt increases the chance that one of the book's readers will come up with the vital 'key' that unlocks what up to now has been the 'complete mystery of Madeleine McCann'.

And if that happens, as the McCanns' publicity says they fervently hope...then...there will be no need for this forum any more...

...and the forum-owner can take a deserved break and move on to even greater forums.

Afraid not actually, Tony. There will no more forums after this because, as McCann supporters 'muratfan', 'rosiepops' and even 'bonnybraes' have said, I need to get urgent medical help then get a life. They can't all be wrong, Tony, so I will be far too busy to move on to even greater forums. Sorry.

From Anorak

http://www.anorak.co.uk/280199/madeleine-mccann/madeleine-mccann-book-extracts-the-loving-mum-and-pain-guaranteed.html

Madeleine McCann Book Extracts: The Loving Mum And Pain Guaranteed

MADELEINE McCann The Book: Madeleine. Extract 1: the “Loving Mum”.

The Sun begins its serialisation of the official Our Maddie reader with the headline:

Madeleine: By Her Mum

The sub-editors have decided to restore the innocent child’s name to its full. Out goes the media’s Maddie. In comes Madeleine, in keeping with the book’s title.

Antonella Lazzeri and the paper’s chief feature writer Oliver Harvey tells us:

IT’S the most heartbreaking book you will ever read.

Guaranteed! You be 100% per cent upset! Or your money back?

Four years ago Madeleine McCann was abducted from a holiday apartment in Praia da Luz, Portugal.

Fact! Or not!

Now for the first time ever her mum Kate tells in her own words the utter torment Madeleine’s family have suffered since their little girl disappeared.

Fact! Or not if you count the many other times Kate McCann has spoken out.

She tells of the moment she discovered Madeleine, who disappeared days away from her fourth birthday, was missing.

Again!

What Kate and husband Gerry fear happened to their precious daughter.

We’re back to the theories and the fear.

How they were made official suspects in their daughter’s abduction and how they have devoted their lives to searching for their daughter for the past four years.

Fact! As well as being devoted to their two other children.

The book, simply called ‘Madeleine’, containing never before seen photos of the little girl, is being serialised in The Sun from this Saturday and all next week.

Fact! Sadly, these never seen before photos of the child are from BEFORE her disappearance.

The McCanns hope the book, which is being published on Madeleine’s eighth birthday, will boost a dwindling fund that helps pay for the search for Madeleine to continue.

Kate, 43, said: “Every penny we raise through its sales will be spent on our search for Madeleine. Nothing is more important to us than finding our little girl.”

How much?

Madeleine’ is being published on May 12th by Transworld at a price of £20.

Fact!

Readers can buy Madeleine (RRP £20) for the special price of £18.00 including free UK and Ireland p&p.

Fact!

According to the advert on the tv just now, Kate McCann is "the only person who knows what happened to Madeleine".

Get her in for questioning then!

Yes Anna, that was a weird statement. Perhaps we are finally going to find out how she knew instantly that Madeleine had been taken, yet why she still had to look round the apartment just in case.
