SkyNews (when was first contact)

Post by Widows Son on 02.12.10 8:41

When did Mc€ann and/or Hea£y first contact the media?

This is one of the PJ questions Katherine Marie Hea£y refused to answer.

Kate Hea£y and Gerry Mc€ann

Post by Widows Son on 02.12.10 17:22

Thank you very much for the kind comments. I appreciate you making the effort to say.

However, it was intended to be a serious question. As I understand it, Kate Hea£y reported the "abduction" to SkyNews before she informed the GNR (Portugese local police). Can anyone say if this is correct?

Also, was it SkyNews, as this might suggest the type of media for which she was aiming?

I remember a thread running similar to this on MCF and either Russell or Matt's rog interview mentioned the phone call to sky, I'll go see if I can find what i'm talking about, back in a bit (can't you tell i'm off work today, most i've ever posted today I think!!)

Thanks to Nigel's brilliant Mccannfiles, found this in Matthew Oldfield's rogatry interview, talking about after Maddie was discovered missing but SKY'S not mentioned as being called:

Reply "Erm, we became more structured, in that, we didn't do anything, in terms of, you know, life then just became, you know, one wander to child care and back and interviews and alike from there. I think the media side of things, which we, erm, I think a lot of people informed the media straight, erm, sort of fairly quickly, because we know James LANDALE who does BBC News Twenty-Four, erm, sort of personally, and his wife, and we did ring them. I mean, you know, I think we were asked not, you know, people suggesting that it wouldn't be a good idea to the Press, but, and they may be right, but, as a group, we thought that you need some exposure on this because if you need to get it out there. And that was sort of as much a criticism, erm, it wasn't sort of a criticism of the Portuguese Police, it was just that it felt like the right thing to do and it just seemed like a good idea at the time, you know, to sort of try and get some exposure. And I think we rang up James or his wife, Kath LANDALE, and asked, you know, how we, how you could do that and they gave us a number. And then I think, we hadn't, erm, I think then there was phone contact between Rachael and the desk, saying, you know, do you want to go forward with this, because we, we mentioned it but didn't sort of authorise anybody to sort of to go, because we hadn't spoken to the Police yet, we didn't know what they wanted to do, erm, and how they'd feel about it, so we held it back, but I think there were people within the group and it sort of got out pretty quickly".

Hope it's OK to C+P the rogs here, mods please delete if not but have just looked at Rachel's rather interesting rog interview about the call to the BBC, not Sky:

1578 “Okay the time is one forty seven pm and that’s on Wednesday the ninth of April, two thousand and eight. We’re in an interview room at Leicestershire Police Force Headquarters. I’m DC 1578 Andrew GIERC of the Leicestershire Major Crime Unit. Would you give me your full name and date of birth please”?
Reply “Er Rachael Mariamma Jean MAMPILLY, eleventh of the eleventh, seventy”.
1578 “Thank you very much. This is the second interview of today Rachael and we’ve discussed over the first interview, the build up to the holiday, the association of the group and you’ve then taken us through a summary of daily routines, upon arrival at the Resort and we’ve gone into some detail in respect of the activities on Thursday the third of May, two thousand and seven, the day of course that Madeleine disappeared”.
Reply “Mmm mmm”.
1578 “I have a list of questions here from the Portuguese Authorities that I’d like to go through with you. Firstly, could you clarify to me please your mobile phone number”?
Reply “Yeah 07XXX XXXXXX”.
1578 “And is that the number you had in Praia”?
Reply “Yes, mm yeah”.
1578 “Okay. Do you know who the user is of a mobile number, 917XXXXXX”?
Reply “No, 917, 917, so it’d be 0917”?
1578 “No, you’ve just says 917, could it have been a Portuguese number”?
Reply “Erm, just say it again”?

1578 “917”.
Reply “917”.
1578 “XXXXXX”?
Reply “No, no idea, I mean I’ve got my phone, I could look”.
1578 “Okay, do you have it with you”?
Reply “I do yeah but, is there any way”.
1578 “This phone number”.
Reply “Yeah, is it a number that I rang”?
1578 “Called yourself”.
Reply “Right”.
1578 “At twenty two thirty six twenty five hours on the fourth of the fifth, so on the Friday”.
Reply “On Friday”.
1578 “Just after ten thirty in the evening”.
Reply “Erm, erm okay well let me just have a look at my mum’s number, oh that’s, that ends in XXX, that’s not right is it, erm 7, what did it end in again”?
1578 “It ends in XXXX”.
Reply “XXXX, erm, erm did you say it called me, or I called it”?
1578 “That number called your mobile”.
Reply “Ten thirty, (inaudible), well I don’t know, the only people that, well I think the only people I spoke to, I know that a client did ring me one of the days but it wouldn’t have been ten thirty at night, erm it was either that Friday or the following Friday to cancel an interview that was happening but I mean that wouldn’t have been at ten thirty at night, erm I would think, I mean I suppose it could, it might have been a Journalist, because on the night that Madeleine disappeared, on the Thursday, a friend of mine, or friends of Matt’s and mine, Kath and James XXXXXXX and James XXXXXXX’s a BBC News erm and at the time he was like Political Correspondent, erm I saw him the other night actually reading the news on BBC News 24 but I rang him, or I rang his wife Kath cos I had her mobile number, erm basically to say you know that Madeleine had gone missing, was there any way that we could get it on the news and that was, that was on the Thursday night, so I suppose and it was the loc, it was the, was it the Local Elections or something happening that day”?
1578 “I don’t know”.
Reply “There were some sort of Elections, must have been Local Elections and James was out, away reporting on that but anyway Kath put me in touch with him and I spoke to him and I spoke to a couple of people on the BBC News 24 desk, so I mean you know, it must”.
1578 “That was on the Thursday evening”?
Reply “That was on the Thursday night”.
1578 “What time would that have been”?
Reply “Well that was sort of you know, midnight after midnight (inaudible)”.
1578 “And this was just after ten thirty pm, twenty two thirty six”?
Reply “On the thir, but that was on the fourth”?
1578 “Yes sorry you’re correct on the fourth, Friday so”.
Reply “Yeah, I mean it could have been somebody calling I suppose in relation to that possibly, erm but otherwise, I mean I only really spoke to you know, sort of my mum and sort of you know, close friends and family, erm and then you know, well Kath, Kath, James’ wife and then James rang me and I think I rang him back and then a couple of people from the BBC News 24 rang, but that was the Thursday night”.
1578 “Okay”.
Reply “Erm and actually I do remember actually, on the Friday, my phone went a lot with lots of different BBC people ringing at various times, so that could have gone on until the evening”.

Yea sorry wasn't dismissing your post but its very apt that you put the cash signs in their names and amusing..There are differing reports of the time of sky being contacted so that is why I never got in to it, some say they did it immediately, some say 6am-ish, fact is it hit the UK news pretty quick and the news did not get to sky from a news agency but for some friend of theirs. oh to have such presence of mind & clarity of thought at such a hellish time wow

Some people will rue the day that they were not up to speed during the final hour. Sod's law seemed to have been in operation during this time, although this had obviously not been communicated to the persons who finally broke the story.

Yes, it was the BBC who were called before the GNR.

Coincidentally ,forum myths are suddenly being resurected on other sceptic sites and forums, Blue bags, towels and blankets ,someone even tried digging up the disgraceful "satirical thread" that was heartily encouraged by posters pretending to be sceptic who turned out to be dedicated kate and gerry supporters in disguise and later moved to set up the cesspit JATYK board.

There is no evidence to support the suggestion that the BBC were called before the GNR, the same night ,maybe -but not before.

That's what I thought. Still, I dont understand why anyone would call the UK press under that circumstances when the search of the child is paramount. If they had spoken to the press when press show up in PDL or after they returned to UK that's quite a different thing and more understandable but to have called the press on the night the child disappeared is definitely a scheme. It was a brazen beyond belief move because that would throw them into the full glare of the public radar but I suppose the most perfect cover is the most inconvenience but inevitable.

10.11 That Sky had been given access to the kidnapping before the Portuguese police was confirmed by a police source:"Someone within the McCann circle phoned from the Ocean Club the night of the crime to Sky News' representative in the Algarve. The call took place at 22.11. We were warned of the disappearance at 22.40." http://tinyurl.com/3atagq

I just caught the end of Max Clifford speaking to Sky about the Dewani case and he made some reference to the "stuff that came out of Portugal during the disappearance of Madeleine McCann". Did anybody else hear this interview?
