McCanns to bring out Maddie Book

By ANTONELLA LAZZERI
Published: Today
A BOOK about Madeleine McCann is to be published by her parents who are desperate to keep the hunt for her going.
Called simply Madeleine it will be published around next May — the fourth anniversary of her abduction.

All proceeds from the book will be donated to the Find Madeleine fund which pays for the search for missing Maddie to continue.

Maddie was three years old when she was snatched while on holiday with her parents in Portugal in May 2007.

Missing ... Maddie was snatched in 2007
Literary agent Christopher Little is acting for her parents Kate and Gerry McCann.

The McCanns were introduced to Mr Little by Harry Potter author JK Rowling who is represented by him.

She has been a huge supporter of the couple and has donated thousands to the Find Madeleine fund.

The McCanns, from Rothley, Leicestershire, asked JK Rowling for help after realising that the fund, which currently stands at £300,000 would run out by next spring.

A source close to the McCanns revealed yesterday: "Writing the book is proving to be a very painful experience for them, reliving all the awful memories and writing about their darling daughter when she is still not home.

"It is really the book they never wanted to write.

"But they are desperate to keep the search for her going and see it as one of the best ways of raising money for the Find Madeleine fund."

Yesterday Kate, 42, said: "There are several different reasons as to why I finally came to the decision with my husband Gerry to write and publish this book.

"This decision has not been an easy one. Many factors needed to be given thorough and careful consideration, not least the impact of such a book on the lives of our three children.

"My reason for writing is simple, to give an account of the truth.

"Publishing this book has been a very difficult decision and is one that we have taken after much deliberation and with a very heavy heart.

"However, in the last few months with the depletion of Madeleine's Fund, it is a decision that has virtually been taken out of our hands.

"Every penny we raise through its sales will be spent on our search for Madeleine. Nothing is more important to us than finding our little girl."

Husband Gerry, also 42, added: "We are hopeful that this book may help the investigation to find Madeleine in other ways too.

"Our hope is that it may prompt those who have relevant information (knowingly or not) to come forward and share it with our team.

"Somebody holds that key piece of the jigsaw."

The book will be published by Transworld who also publish works by Da Vinci Code writer Dan Brown.

Bill Scott-Kerr from Transworld said it was "an enormous privilege" to be publishing the book.

He added: "We are so pleased to be joining Kate and Gerry McCann in the Find Madeleine campaign."

The McCanns' Literary Agents, Christopher Little and Neil Blair, said they were "honoured" to be part of "this emotive project"

At the premier of the new Harry Potter film, J K Rowling did mention that she would be writing another book and that there would be new central characters in it - who would have guessed they would be the McCanns what

Are they admitting Maddie is dead.

How did they know she wouldnt be found when they planned the fund so far ahead?

And how do people know money is used to search for her properly?
Did they give a comprehensive accounts of the search? NO. will they give it in the future? NO.

Do they think they are saleable and people will buy?

If the papers are prepared to pay them million to serialise the book the papers are not making good money sense...

because no one will buy the book...it will just end in the Pound shop.

Are they going to sell in Portugal?

It will just be another lot of shites......

Chapter 1 Taken
Chapter 2 Abducted
chapter 3 Kidnapped
chapter 4 She's held in a cave
chapter 5: No help from police or govt.
chapter 6: Money's running out
chapter 7 HELP US!

I am sure the police will be very interested in their book.
It will be well ahead of time for next year's Xmas pressies for their family and friends.

This is purely because Amarals book is available now or will be when their solicitors comply with the order of the court and return the books to Amaral, its also probably the last chance of making any money out of their daughters misery

But you see their lawyer is deliberately interpretating the Judges ruling differently as excuse to hold onto the book.

It will be interesting to see what is going to happen in that regard.

What makes this so laughable is that the mccanns accused others of writing book to make money, err....what are they doing now?

I hope the McCanns solicitor gets done for contempt of court, if it was Joe soap who flouted the ruling they would be, as for the McCanns and their money grabbing disregard for their own blood they make me sick tearhairout

I thought the McCanns told their version of the truth in their channel 4 mockumentary.

I wonder if their book will contradict that?

Yes, and maybe she'll tell us what happened to the pink blanket and how she managed to get cadaver scent on her trousers.

One would suggest not, if their lawyers are doing their job properly.

However, one has considered that they may have problems with any chapter which deals with Tanner's flip-flopping up and down the street in the presence of Wilkins, which he denies. Whom are they prepared to call a fool on the printed page? It was quite shocking enough to see Tanner crying in the television show.

Perhaps this chapter is best left out, along with the initial chapters dealing with doors and windows being left opened but closed at the same time; apart from the one which was left open in case there was a fire and Madeleine needed to call for help or rescue her two siblings. Then there will have to be a clever chapter on the shutters being forced without any evidence of them having been forced. Of course there is another challenge with regard to the last person having seen her. Then there is a statement from somebody who was possibly checking on an altogether different apartment to the one where the McCanns had been residing, because the drapes and windows and furniture were very different.

One of the most difficult chapters to put together, would be the angelic scene wherein Madeleine and the twins were dressed in white, as witnessed by Payne. Especially, given that his visit seemed to have lasted for both 30 seconds and 30 minutes. One would have thought it rather tricky for the public to grasp both concepts of time given that he did not visit twice. It also suggests Madeleine may have been wearing two pairs of pyjamas during that evening. After all, if she was wearing white pyjamas when Payne saw her, yet Tanner saw pink and indeed her parents say they were pink, it would rather suggest that at least one of them needs an eye-test. At the very least.

Perhaps the McCanns would be better off not tying themselves up in any more knots, or making their friends out to be liars and fools, and leave the writing of books to people such as Amaral.

After all this time why suddenly is it so important to give an account of the truth? They haven't been bothered by the sceptics before. Can only be to counteract Amaral's book IMO. They had hoped to ban his book permamently and make money through libel. With those hopes dashed and legal fees to pay, this could be their final swansong. The public will be satisfied they've done all they can to find Madeleine and will agree that for their sanity and the sake of the twins, of course, if they just slip away quietly and try to get on with life. In the future you will just get the odd quote from them when some other child goes missing. All just IMO.

This must be a distraction from the destruction they are anticipating from the PJ. There seemed to be palpable despair at the prospect of Amaral's book seeing the light of day again. One would wager that this was totally unexpected, especially after all the money they have thrown around to get their own way.

Re: Kate's Account of The Truth - The Sun

Post by Judge Mental on 15.11.10 19:56

soulthief, one could not think of one single chapter which one would recommend they start with after the obvious dedication to Madeleine.

Having thought about this for a moment, even this would be tricky would it not? How to introduce the book without it looking as if it is a memorial to a deceased person is going to have any editor on their toes. We have the libel case against Amaral to consider. Hot potatoes in a minefiled, methinks. Is it not Amaral who is allegedly devastating their chances of people getting out there and doing a bit of searching?

Yes, one believes that the drawing board may be the best place to keep this book for the moment, and not a bookshelf. Talking of shelved documents, perhaps now is the time to take Madeleine's case down from the shelf in whichever dusty alcove it has been sitting in, and go through those documents thoroughly before starting new projects.

Anyone for a reconstruction?

Re: Kate's Account of The Truth - The Sun

Post by sharonl on 15.11.10 20:55

Hi Autumn

Thanks for posting up this article - I just love the Antonella tales, something different every time.

She has made sure that we get the "poor McCanns running out of cash" message there - is this because of the legal costs associated with them losing the case against Amaral? What about that house, Kate said that they would sell if they needed to (2007).

I cant help thinking that the cash would be better spent looking for that Gypsy friend of Hewletts that Antonella would have us beleive in. Surely Mrs Hewlett could use a few grand, or they could use the cash for a campaign to re-open the case.

Surely, if Madeleine had been abducted, the publication of this book would force the abductor further into hiding, oops sorry I forgot, he (or is it she today?) is not in hiding, he is out and about shopping, going to cafe bars, petrol stations and garden sales with Madeleine in full public view (even though she is held captive in a hellish lair). It may even be that he would panic and harm Madeleine. From that point, the book is a bad idea.

So what is the reason for the book - obviously its no more than a rebuttal to Amarals book and a cry for more donations. But who is paying? the costs must be enormous.

How do they expect a book to aid the search? or is the object of this excercise merely to clear their own names?

Clarrie - if your looking in I have a few questions:

  1. What is the real purpose of the book?
  2. What will be contained in the book?
  3. Why now, what has brought this on?
  4. Has the lifting of the ban on Amaral`s book influenced them?
  5. What do they hope to acheive by publishing the book?
  6. How do they expect the book to aid the search?
  7. Have they considered that this may put Madeleine in danger?
  8. Will public questions be answered?
  9. Would it be more beneficial to spend the money on a campaign to re-open the case in Portugal?
  10. Who will pay the costs?
  11. Is the reason behind this to clear their names or to aid the search?
  12. Will they be giving explanation for the evidence that the PJ found against them? (Clarrie said that there was wholly innocent explanations for all that the police may or may not find)

[Still cant wait for my copy - looking forward to it

The McCanns P.R. reminds me so much of the P.R. used by Michael Jackson described in the "Magic and the Madness by" J. Randy Taraborelli.
I will believe the McCann book when I see it.

You think Gerry will give a explanation of what he found so funny as he sucked on a lollipop and talked sport whilst waiting for potentially the abductor to make contact in their book?

I don't think the book will contain anything about the night of the "abduction", too dangerous for them as there have been so many disprepancies up til now I doubt they can remember what lies they've told. I think it will start at the search, or lack of, in their opinion, and will just be an Amaral/PJ bashing exercise. However, as other people have said, it will be interesting if they do come up with "wholly innocent" explanations for the cadaver scent, blood splattering etc - they may have had time to think up some more gems.

I think the McCanns need to be very careful in producing a documented account of the version of events. I will be purchasing the book (secondhand from amazon, I expect there will be oodles), i'm sure it will make for wonderful IPA and DA analysis.

I agree. It will be a book about how hard they've worked to 'search' for Madeleine by keeping her alive in the public's mind.
