McCanns tire of 'fluffy and worthless' words offered by authorities
http://thescotsman.scotsman.com/scotland/McCanns-tire-of-39fluffy-
Published Date: 03 November 2010
By SHÂN ROSS
KATE and Gerry McCann have faced a harrowing three-and-a-half year search for their young daughter Madeleine. And the couple have finally lost patience with the lack of progress made by the police, saying they have had enough of "fluffy, worthless words" and calling for a full case review into her disappearance.
• Kate and Gerry McCann want a full review of the case - and are appealing again for the public's help. Picture: PA
Madeleine has been missing since 3 May, 2007, when, aged three, she was taken as she slept alongside her younger twin brother and sister in Praia da Luz in the Algarve, Portugal. Her parents had been dining with friends at a nearby tapas bar within their holiday complex at the time.
The McCanns, both doctors, have never given up hope their daughter will be found. But yesterday they launched a petition to lobby the UK and Portuguese governments for a joint or independent review of the case, saying they wanted "action" and "somebody to do something".
Glasgow-born Mr McCann, said: "Essentially for the last three and a half years, the authorities have not been doing anything proactive to help Madeleine. That is despite our best efforts to encourage them to do so.
"I don't think it's right that the onus should fall on us - the authorities really should be doing more."
Mrs McCann said: "I don't want to be appeased, and that's what I feel we're getting at the moment.
"We need action. I don't need fluffy, worthless words. We need somebody to do something.
"Madeleine is still missing, she's a little girl, her abductor is still out there, so by not carrying on, we are putting other children at risk. I think more needs to be done."
The McCanns, from Rothley, Leicestershire, have met former home secretaries Alan Johnson and Jacqui Smith, as well as current Home Secretary Theresa May, to discuss the issue and to ask for a review of the case.
Mr Johnson commissioned a "scoping exercise" by the Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre to see if a review would be helpful. Mrs McCann said when they met him, they felt they were making progress, but now they did not even know if the report had been read.
"There has not been a formal case review and I think for such a serious case like this, and with the profile of it and international aspects, that should be carried out," Mr McCann said

It is exactly three and a half years since our daughter Madeleine was so cruelly taken from us. Three and a half years without her seeing her brother, her sister, her Mummy, her Daddy or her best friends. We need your support to continue to lobby the British and Portuguese Governments to undertake a joint or independent review of Madeleine’s case.

It looks as if they have had word that the Portuguese are about to start continuing their investigations, so they want to look as if it is all their own idea to get the show back on the road.

Re: Madeleine's parents seek support from London and Lisbon to review the case
OH BOY OH BOY ......I never thought this will come so SOON.
Good grief, I havent spilt side for a long time.
Them ACTUALLY initiating a petition giving people a chance to comment and to return their compliments what their side did to previous petitions by others!
Blimey heck, surely they could muster more signatures than nerely the pair of lying mccanns and their filthy mouth piece! 4 pathetic signatures is all they could rally from their side ! What a blxxdy joke!
What about their friends T7? And, what about their extended families and their rich and influential friends?
Or, for that matter what happened to the Board of Directors? Surely those overseeing fund could at least sign the petition, after all that's the purpose of the fund (to find out what happened to Maddie)!
Surely at least those people want to support the mccanns' petition to get the case re-open or review?
Something is in the air.....I cant help feeling. First German website then this timed with Halligen's trial!
What are they playing at?
It looks as if the HO and several HS are taking no notice of their plead for help.
It could only mean one thing: The HO and FCO know they are bluffingm ignoring them, and waiting for nature to take it course.
Judging by the comments, people are having a field day.
Signatures of their more notorious internet supporters are also missing ...where are these people? Running scared?

Re: Madeleine's parents seek support from London and Lisbon to review the case
They are only emulating the antis knowing that no police is interested in reviewing their case.
The polices are probably sitting on so much dirt on them that they prefer to wait till the right evidence to come along to reopen the case.
The mccanns may just get their wish if Amaral has his way to get the case reopened
...If it comes to that I bet the mccanns will refuse to cooperate despite their petition.
They are only bluffing.. just another phony side they try to keep up,,
We shall see wont we...which authority will take them seriously.
If the review should entail calling all those involved for testimony on oaths ...these people will flee again...and make excuses.....

All anti comments have been whoosh-clunked. - someone must have sat up all night removing them Lots of duplicated names, hardly surprising as you can sign multiple times with non-existent e-mail addresses.

Last ditch to save face you mean? Could well be that or the libel trial is coming up real SOON.
Otherwise they could be harvesting email addresses.

At this rate, the person running their site is making a bomb.

Less than 2 hours later the petition has now reached 4091 siggies - people are clearly taking time off work, aborting holidays and shopping expeditions to make sure they're online to sign this petition.

They are on Sky news. About 3/4 way through each hourly session. Interviewed by Martin Brunt. Complaining that it is "absolutely scandalous" that nothing more is being done by "the authorities"!

Madeleine McCann search fund running out of money
Wednesday 03 November 2010
Madeleine McCann's parents tell Darshna Soni their fear that the authorities have given up searching for their missing little girl. Their own fund to find her could run out of money by next spring.
It is now three and a half years since Madeleine McCann went missing – an arbitrary anniversary, perhaps, but her parents are desperate to keep the story in the news.
Gerry and Kate McCann rarely give television interviews, but they told me they believe the authorities have effectively given up searching for the toddler.
Mr McCann told Channel 4 News: "The authorities haven't done anything proactive in the search for well over two years now. We think it's fundamental that a case review is undertaken."
The McCann's daughter went missing on a family holiday to Portugal on 3 May 2007, a few days before her fourth birthday. The couple were dining with friends at a nearby restaurant when she disappeared.
Uneasy relationship with detectives
The original investigation was led by the Portuguese police and saw the couple themselves questioned over Maddy's disappearance. Although they were exonerated, they have since had an uneasy relationship with detectives, whom they claim have now given up on their daughter.
Since Maddy's disappearance, the couple have paid hundreds of thousands of pounds to private detectives. They set up a fund and received donations from the public and wealthy businessmen, including Sir Richard Branson.
Cash flow problems
But today, the fund has less than £300,000 left. They have written an open letter to supporters and celebrities, appealing for help. Mr and Mrs McCann say the money will run out by next spring.
Home Secretaries
The couple have now met with three Home Secretaries: Alan Johnson, Jacqui Smith, and most recently Theresa May, to ask for a review of the case.Mr Johnson commissioned a "scoping exercise" by the Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre to see if a review would be helpful. Since then, however, progress seems to have stalled.
Mrs McCann told me that Mrs May admitted she had not even read the scoping report when the couple met her.
They are asking the public to sign a petition backing their calls for a review.
"The clock keeps ticking, the calendar keeps turning. There are days when we look at each other and think God I wish it was all over… I wish Madeleine was back with us full stop. But we can't stop, no matter how tiring, no matter how many blocks are put in our way because a little girl is still missing," said Mrs McCann.
