The McCanns and Online Safety Empty The McCanns and Online Safety

Post by Autumn 24.09.10 13:53

The addition of the Students For Madeleine Initiative to the McCanns' Website has been, and remains for me, one of the most disturbing developments in all of this. It is outrageous that anyone should be permitted to ask children and young people to send them their personal details such as which school/university they attend, the networking sites they use and even where and when they will be going on holiday. At the very least this is intrusive and irresponsible and at worst, extremely sinister. I think most parents would be horrified about this, were they to read the Gaspars statements and the findings of the investigation, that the McCanns' daughter most likely died in the apartment and that the case is filed under homicide.
One of the reasons the McCanns give for targetting students is that ' we know that many students travel over the summer, often to places off the beaten track - Oh so its fine to encourage youngsters to ignore travel safety advice and put themselves in potential danger in foreign countries?
Perhaps it is time that the CEOP were notified about this matter in the hope that they will demand that the McCanns remove the link.

Students for Madeleine
Support: Students for Madeleine

Reaching out to all students……………………Can you help?

We are launching a new initiative for students to help us in our search for Madeleine. To increase our chances of finding Madeleine, it is vital that we maintain awareness of her in as many places as possible worldwide. 1 in 6 children are found and returned to their families, simply because a member of the general public has recognised them after seeing their face on a poster!

We know that many students travel over the summer, often to places off the beaten path. Others may decide to take a ‘gap-year’ before continuing on to university.

If you are a student and would be willing to help with this initiative, we would be very grateful if you would fill-out the form below. Our ‘Students for Madeleine’ Program Manager will then make contact with you to suggest ways in which you can help.

If you have any questions regarding this aspect of the Find Madeleine Campaign, please send an Email to sfm@findmadeleine.com.

Thank you.

Worryingly, if you look on the Mcanns' Official Find Madeleine Facebook Site, you will see that there is no shortage of students volunteering to explore desolated areas whilst on holiday and buy travel packs in bulk.

I have to say, I`m sure (I hope !) that most of those posts are made up. The average student wouldn`t bulk buy those lovely travel packs !

And in any case, what use would a poster be in some remote part of Borneo ?!!
Having recently deposited a student at uni and knowing many of his friends taking gaps years, the very very last thing on their minds is a missing child presumed abducted !

In fact, the only thing on most of their minds is THEMSELVES !!!

The thing that pee`d me off most was the information the McCanns asked for. What bloody relevance is the name of the uni, or the course they are studying?
And given all the so called internet security we have drummed into our offspring, its downright disgusting that the McCanns, unchallenged are asking for such details.

But then again, we`d expect nothing less.

If they are doing this on facebook, maybe a report should be made to facebook or police, that the mccanns are imploring vulnerable students to do their dirty job for them while they parked on their bum comfortably controlling them from Rothley.

Every adult, more so a pair of doctors who themselve didnt want their privacy intruded should know better than to exploit the students by being intrusive What have students personal details got to do with where they are going on holiday? or anything to do with search for Maddie btw?

They cant even be arsed to organise search of caves in lawless villlage 10 mile radius of PDL, why then expect
others, students in particular, to do what they themselves wouldnt do.

I think their antics must be highlighted to students. Maybe comments can be left on mccanns' appeal to students site directing students to released files. That will help them decide whichever way they want, but they should at least be made aware that investigators version from mccanns is as cheese to chalk.

Makes you wonder why the McCanns are wanting to get their hands on personal details of children as well. Lets not forget, they are targettng school age children as well as university students. When I think about the Gaspars statements, I shudder to think of what use they may have for the personal details sent to them in good faith by children.

aiyoyo, I think any comments including the word 'Gaspar' would be whoosh-clunked from their site within seconds wow Just out of interest, is it illegal to ask children for their personal details online - if so, the police should certainly be notified. about this?

CEOP warns against giving out any personal details to anyone you dont know. There are not only the obvious dangers of giving info to people who they dont know and dont know who they are dealing with but some vulnerable children/young people may think they are helping by going to isolated spots looking for Madeleine. This is irresponsible and potentially dangerous imo

I would most certainly think it is illegal for 'ADULTS' to ask children to part with their personal details. Didnt CEOP warn against that in the avoidance of paedophile targetting children. In fact most parents and sensible adults would warn children never to reveal info about themselves because one never know who you are communicating with or that people are who they claimed to be. Evil adults alway use ruse and tactics to deceive children on the internet. That's why vulnerable or trusting children sometimes end up meeting the adults whom they believed were of their age, who often times turn out to be sex predators; then these vulnerable children would place themselves in precarious situation highly at risk of endangering themselves.

Children are supposed to be vigilant especially over internet communications against sex predators in disguise as teens or adults in disguise for whatever purposes just to target children for their own agenda.

Honestly, I cant see how the mccanns can do that yet the CEOP support it (presuming CEOP knows about it). If not, then CEOP should be informed. Imo, CEOP has no right to disregard the Gaspers statement providing they knew of it regardless of outcome of the police investigation pertaining to that. For the sake of objectivity, they must be remain neutral.

In view of the released files question should be asked is it now still consider legal for mccanns to solicit money from students by directing students to fund link?

Geez........where are they going to draw a line?
Moreover why are they interfering with police investigations seeing that TB had just received confirmation from LP that investigation is ongoing?
