Entirely expectedly, the widow and family of digger-driver Konstantinos ('Dinos') Barkas are aggrieved and angry beyond measure at what South Yorkshire Police, the media and Kerry Needham have done to the memory of their beloved husband and father. According to tomorrow's Sunday Mirror, they plan to sue Kerry Needham, especially for her reported comment that she "wishes Dinos would burn in hell".

I think what South Yorkshire Police have done to his family is wicked beyond measure. I do not yet know what their little game was, beyond conducting an expensive charade for the benefit of the world's press, but what they have done is very dangerous - just as Scotland Yard are equally guilty over the unnecessary suffering caused to the family of Euclides Monteiro, the dead tractor-driver.

I have never contributed to the funds for Kerry Needham's 'search'.

But I will very happily do so if the family of Dinos Barkas set up a fund for their legal expenses to sue Kerry Needham and/or South Yorkshire Police:

Dr Martin Roberts: "The evidence is that these are the pjyamas Madeleine wore on holiday in Praia da Luz. They were photographed and the photo handed to a press agency, who released it on 8 May, as the search for Madeleine continued. The McCanns held up these same pyjamas at two press conferences on 5 & 7June 2007. How could Madeleine have been abducted?"

Amelie McCann (aged 2): "Maddie's jammies!".

Again I want to highlight my general ignorance of this case comparatively with the Madeleine case - so I'm beyond open to correction - but I was under the impression the searches in 2012 included speaking to him, and the 'new' aspect was a media invention? That being the case would there not be records of his contact with authorities before his death, and would said documents not speak volumes on the in/validity of the current conclusion?

Totally agree with your sentiments Tony. These people are island inhabitants who belong to a small community where they have no escape from the taint put upon their dead relative.
I was particularly struck by the daughter's words. She is nursing a new baby, the grandchild of the deceased and the horror is slowly dawning on her that her children will be confronted with comments about their grandfather being a murderer as they grow up. That really drove home the devastation British plod have left in their wake... A-gain.
Another thing that jumped out at me was in Part One of the documentary where the grandparents retrace the search route of the fateful day. In the middle of an area of overgrown grass and thorns  - a distance too far for the infant to have walked they decide - Eddie suddenly leans down and picks up a toy car. His wife gives it a cursory glance and instantly dismisses the possibility of it being Ben's, saying the child had two but different. She seems, at this stage, to have a clear recollection of the two in question. The very fact that they happened upon a car on scrubland; the very fact that she only "thought" this recently unearthed toy car was Ben's, should have given Kerry and the whole family pause for thought. There must be items of this sort all over the place by the sound of it, from years gone by.
In my view the digger driver's family have been left in an impossible situation. They have to sue in order to clear his name.
