THERESA MAY IS OUR NEW PRIME MINISTER

Post by plebgate on 11.07.16 13:09

Very disappointed.

Andrea L. has pulled out of race.

ETA as posted this on a different thread.
Very disappointed.

She has been useless as Home Secretary imo.

Andrea has been bullied for sure and with her being a mother I can't blame her really it would all be too much for family life.

Easy to say now that Brexit means Brexit and I wont believe it until it happens.

Why the secret meeting with Branson and why did Murdoch support her?

More to this than meets the eye.

The whole thing has been a bit of a pantomime.

But, not normally interested in politics, I've found the past few weeks to be quite gripping.

All the time in Britain MayM.

Coincidentally a letter was received from 1000 barristers today saying that the whole thing was not lawful (along those lines) and will be challenged.

1000 barristers, someone means business.

What wasn't lawful, BREXIT or how TM became the PM?
Where did they send the letter?
I'm gutted she is in, hopeful she will stand by the "out" though eh!
The whole thing from start to finish has been an absolute sham IMO

Hi MayM
Can't remember exactly but it said that 1000 barristers have signed a letter to ?Cameron to say that the referendum was advisory only and cannot stand and that due to misrepresentation by the Leave campaigners (350 million pounds given to EU) would be challenged.  Along those lines anyway.

I've not heard the quotes from people but didn't it say on the Brexit bus  ... £350M could be given...

I think most people would realise that how we would share out the saving from not being in the EU hasn't been discussed.

Probably, more important was the point that the UK wasn't going to be governed by unelected people abroad passing laws that we didn't have a say in.

Let's not get ahead of ourselves, although looking more and more likely by the day, she's not yet passed the winning post.  As the famous man in the mac said nearly sixty years ago - 'a week is a long time in politics'.

Conversely,  she could still have been set up as the party stooge - they're going to need one when Brexit goes belly-up.

Re a time frame for Mrs. May...further from my previous quote from BBC...

chairman, Graham Brady, said Mrs May would be formally confirmed as the new party leader as soon as the Conservative Party board had been consulted - saying there would be "no need to re-run the election".
He declined to give an exact timetable for the next steps - other than to say it would not be "nine weeks" until Mr Cameron's successor was in place.
The contest was originally scheduled to finish on 9 September.

So, 'the ordinary, working people' (who TM, 'mentioned' earlier today) 'voted' for HER, to be 'PM' did they?

or was it JUST, actually, SIXTY SEVEN Tory 'mp's', the difference between May's '199' mp's 'support' against the '132' Tory mp's who did NOT 'support' her?

150,000 Tory 'membership' ('ordinary, working people') will now NOT get to 'vote'.

Mayocracy in 'action'!

Congratulations, Mrs Theresa May

Post by Tony Bennett on 11.07.16 15:10

I would like to publicly give my congratulations to Theresa May on becoming the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.

That is not to say that I overlook many concerns about her, of which four seem to be the most important:

1. The repeated and inexcusable failure to do much much more to control inward migration and expel those migrants (e.g. with bad criminal records) who have no place here
2. Supporting the Remainers, when so many of her Cabinet colleagues had the wisdom, intelligence and courage to campaign for BREXIT
3. Her disastrous appointment of establishment figures like Lady Woolf and Lady Butler-Sloss to chair the much-needed inquiry into child abuse, and
4. Her almost total failure to stand up to and root out the appalling level of police corruption in the U.K.

She is a woman who has made it to the top - well done. The last woman Prime Minister, whatever else may be said against her, inherited a failing economy at the mercy of too-powerful trade unions and left it in a healthy state after 11 years in office - probably more than most of her male colleagues were capable of at the time.

I am pleased that the Conservative leadership contest has been resolved today, 11 July - and not over 8 weeks later, on 9 September.

The stock market has in consequence had another very good day - it is now more than 11% above what it was four weeks ago, and within an hour of Andrea Leadsom making her statement, I saw that the pound was up over 1% from 1.286 against the dollar to 1.305.

I wish her every success. I hope she and her team will now be able to withstand the mammoth onslaught that will now follow from all those who for one reason or another are currently angry and distraught about the BREXIT decision.

I hope she will be 1000% more honest with us than David Cameron and his fellow-travellers have been over the past year.

Finally, as for the 1,000 barristers, their case is hopeless.

Look at the quotations I've put up by David Cameron on this thread...'This is your decision', 'The day after any BREXITt vote we will trigger Article 50' and 'Your vote will decide this for a generation' etc.:

 http://jillhavern.forumotion.net/t12999-government-statement-on-the-petition-calling-for-a-second-eu-referendum-9-july-2016

As for claims that there was 'misrepresentation' by the LEAVE campaign, what about all those apocalyptic threats of World War III and a world-wide recession following BREXIT which would have frightened so many into voting REMAIN??

WE DECIDED

Spoken like a true statesman!

Inspite of my cynicism, I really hope Ms May and her future cabinet lives up to expectations.  A future independent of the European Union is our only hope.

Re: THERESA MAY IS OUR NEW PRIME MINISTER

Post by jeanmonroe on 11.07.16 16:14

'These are the reasons why, under my leadership, the Conservative Party will put itself – completely, absolutely, unequivocally – at the service of ordinary, working people.'

'A society that works for everyone, so we can bring people back together – rich and poor, north and south, urban and rural, young and old, male and female, black and white, sick and healthy, public sector, private sector, those with skills and those without.'

'THIS' T May?

How Theresa May voted on Welfare and Benefits #

Generally voted for reducing housing benefit for social tenants deemed to have excess bedrooms (which Labour describe as the "bedroom tax")

Consistently voted against raising welfare benefits at least in line with prices

Generally voted against paying higher benefits over longer periods for those unable to work due to illness or disability

Generally voted for making local councils responsible for helping those in financial need afford their council tax and reducing the amount spent on such support

Generally voted for a reduction in spending on welfare benefits

Generally voted against spending public money to create guaranteed jobs for young people who have spent a long time unemployed
------------------------------------------------------------

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-35476904

The Motability Scheme allows disabled people to lease a new car, scooter or powered wheelchair with the help of government funding

Nearly 14,000 disabled people who rely on a specialist motoring allowance have had their cars taken away from them following government welfare changes.

Figures seen by the BBC show almost half of those having to be reassessed for this support under the changes lost their Motability vehicle.

Many had been adapted to meet their owners' needs and campaigners warn it could lead to a loss of independence.
------------------------------------------------------

Theresa May voted FOR this 'change'!

Will the 'ordinary, hard working, disabled people' now 'get back' their 'mobility' with TM as 'pm'?

It should be pointed out that at a General Election, we vote for a party, not a person.

It is also the case that the powers-that-be in their wisdom have decided that we have a General Elections every 5 years.

At the last election, the Conservatives got 11,334,726 votes.
UKIP got a further 3,881,099 votes.

Together they got 15,215,825.

That was not far off double the number who voted for Labour: just 9,347,324.

Farewell Dave-the-mendacious,

Your litany of lies was audacious.

No recession, you see -

And no World War III;

And now we've got May - good gracious!

Yes, Tony, I was going to say that in my last post, but it's not the fact that TM (who I have always had great respect for) will become PM, but the hypocrisy of the powers that be. They can't accept a DEMOCRATIC vote, if it goes against their wishes, but they turn a blind eye, when things go their way. Makes one's blood boil!
