Errm the internet originated from the fear of soviet technological advancement and risk of nuclear attack during the 1950's. The father of the internet was Paul Baran.

We now need it to ensure that we do not come under attack from our own governments, and to ensure that individuals have instant access to any information that is deliberately withheld by governments.

Where would we be without Wikileaks?

Without the internet, how would the world have become aware of the despicable actions of Trafigura using some of the world's ''most feared'' lawyers to take out injunctions to ensure that previous injunctions were not mentioned in public?

How would we have learned about the Gaspars statements? How would we have ever known about the countless discrepancies in the Tapas 9 statements and stories? How would we have learned the McCann family were sueing a man for writing a book about a case of work he was once in charge of?

How would we all have known about the harrassment and bullying of Tony Bennett and The Madeleine Foundation? Without the www network, how would any of us have been able to come together to assure The Foundation that there are millions of people all over Europe, Australia and the Americas who feel the same way about Madeleine's case as they do?

How would we have ever learned that we live and breathe amongst such evil fellows as the monsters who sit around trashing the diligent and painstaking work of Mr. Amaral, the PJ and decent bloggers and posters on a daily basis?

How would we have gained evidence that Leicester police did not immediately inform the Portuguese that the Gaspars had spent hours making statements about David Payne and Gerald McCann?

How would we have known that the PJ was told by our own Government that they could not have the medical, bank and telephone details of the Tapas 9?

How would we ever have learned that Madeleine's DNA is more rare than hens teeth?

Oh the internet has certainly not come without its problems for governments..lol.

Example 1 - business e-fraud, industry espionage, piracy. Record labels and film-makers and distributors claim they are losing £400m a year through online piracy and file-sharing alone.

Example 2 - Gov threat to National security. Example, Richard Tomlinson, exMI6, released 100 names of MI6 agents online; In 2003 operation ore list leaked online, included names of UK elitist and political figures. HO desperately tried to have this information removed from websites and blogs, but within hours it had spread worldwide.

Example 3 - cyber-paedophilia. Global paedophilia networks uncovered such as the Wonderland Club in 2001 and more recently paedophile website Kids the light of our lives in 2007.

Example 4 - cyber trespass (hacking, defacement virus) cyber-deception and theft. The FBI state the 10 most frequent fraud reports involve internet services, and that half a billion dollars is being lost annually by consumers through credit card fraud alone.

The internet will never be controlled due to its deterritorialized nature and incompatible (or in some cases non-existent) nation state regulations and legislation, oh and the fact that the digital mutlitudes are always one step ahead big grin
