Oh wow, was it Huelva they went to and there was a big portion of time they couldn't be accounted for?

Oh no, never mind that was 3rd August, although there were 3 of them (john corner).

Intriguing. Might explain why Mrs Hubbard was so worried when the Bishop of the Algarve started digging.

I believe that there could be some very worried people right about now wondering what on earth Rocky A. is going to say.

The comment about the old lady in the coffin.   Even though I have heard of this before, it still made my blood run cold.

Hire cars and mileages (or kmage as it were);

Robert Murat:

'Hire firm worker Maria Rocio says Murat rang her on Saturday and asked to rent a Hyundai Getz for three days, insisting he needed it immediately and could not wait.
Maria added: "Robert said to me, 'I need to rent a car for myself because the English people who are looking for the little girl need to borrow my car. They need to put information posters on it.'"
Maria said she told him she was about to shut for lunch - and he threatened to take his business elsewhere unless she let him pick up the car before she went. She said: "There was something about his voice, he was saying, 'I need to have it quickly.' His voice was impatient, I could tell from his voice that he needed it in a hurry.!' Source

'Questioned he states that he rented a grey Hyundai car on Saturday, 12 May, from the Auto Rent firm in Praia da Luz. He thinks that he picked up the car in the afternoon of that day. This car was returned by his mother on Tuesday 15th of that month. Basically he used the car in the area of Lagos and Portimão. He did not leave the Algarve with it. He does not remember how many kilometres he drove with the car, however he estimates about 100 to 200 at most. He informs having rented it because his mother was using the VW in the information table [she had set up] and the Skoda was in the workshop and he had no other means of transport. Confronted with the fact that there is information that that car had done 700 km during the rental period, he says this is not true. He denies having gone so many kilometres in that car, adding that to have more mileage than what he indicated that this will be an error of whoever read the mileage [odometer], the defendant was the only person to use the car.' Source

Still trying to find out the date of this cremation to put details together. There are issues if it doesn't collate with the Scenic cadaverine, that would have to be remonstrated some how. But 700km would allow for several return journeys to Ferreira do Alentejo...was this car tailed? And what was the mileage on 'his car' that was 'borrowed'?

Gerry McCann:

'2. As regards the Renault Grand Scenic, number plate 59-DA-27, it was hired by Gerry from Rent a car AA. Castanheira, with offices in Lagos, on 27-05-2007 and was delivered to the McCann couple at the apartment they were occupying in P da L, from which time it was noted in the contract that a friend of the McCanns, Alexander Cameron, was noted as an additional driver.

- At a later date, at the end of August, another additional driver was added to the contract, Michael Terrence Wright.

- The return of the car to the rental agency, was done at the agency?s offices on 23-09-2007 by a Caucasian individual, who appeared there alone, speaking English, about 1.80 cm tall, with short grey hair, about 60-65 years old, who signed the delivery document for the return of the car, but whose signature is illegible.

- When the car was delivered to the McCanns it had 3.114 km on the clock and when it was returned it had 14.443 km on the clock, thus 11.227 km had been travelled during the period the car was in their possession.' Source

ETA - it would be very sad if she was cremated. That would make determining her cause of death nigh on impossible. Even if someone rolls over on them finally, we could never know for sure if they were being truthful about cause of death.

I will add, and yes this is somewhat morbid, but I have seen a demonstration of how cremations work. The person performing the cremation would HAVE to be implicit at the point of cremation. Hiding under an old lady would only work up until the point of performing the cremation. I hate to be graphic so I will put this part in spoiler tags:
Spoiler:
After the main cremation is done, bones still have to be crushed. Anyone performing the cremation would notice two skeletons.

Has the met investigated the 3 shadows of people going into church at night 'in the dark' with a bag?
Perhaps that was the 'burglars' they seek storing their 'stash'? IMO

Is it possible for DNA to be extracted from ashes?

I googled this question and have come across conflicting replies.

Anyone?

Came across this. I don't know how accurate the claims are, but it gives a glimmer of hope if it's true:

"In the past five years new research has greatly heightened forensic scientists’ knowledge of how to detect and extract DNA from skeletal remains that have been subjected to extreme heat. However, most forensic scientists and laboratories around the world still struggle to retrieve usable DNA. This is because many do not have access to, or are unaware of, new alternative approaches which can undeniably increase the amount and quality of DNA information drawn from cremated human remains.

DNA is typically destroyed by high temperature when a proper cremation is conducted. However because of the inconsistencies of funeral home and crematorium industrial cremators or incinerators, Private Lab Results labs has been successful in doing so.

So, if it can be determined who this "old lady" was, maybe her family had the ashes interred somewhere. If this is the case, maybe if they are analysed, it can be determined if the ashes contain two bodies".

END

Just a thought!

Joana Morais suggests that the significant date was 12 December 2009.

The early morning visit to the church.

The evening mass where Madeleine was remembered.

Cremation the next day.

ETA:  If there is a glimmer of hope it probably rests with the information gleaned by the Bishop of The Algarve rather than DNA.

That's really interesting and gives hope for the future if indeed testing needs to be carried out.

Thank you for the information and also for the welcome.  thumbsup

ETA:  If there is a glimmer of hope it probably rests with the information gleaned by the Bishop of The Algarve rather than DNA.

Quoting from the above article:

'McCanns visited the church in secret

"Although our pain feels much rawer here, it is comforting at the same time since we feel closer to Madeleine - we can read in a press statement sent to Lusa news agency in 12th December 2009, by the McCann's Portuguese PR, in connection to the couple's visit to the church. During the day, the visits were announced and followed by the media. The exception was made in the early hours of January 14, 2010 [issues with date/see references bellow]. At 5am they were seen and photographed leaving the church from a side door. In the afternoon they gave a press conference.'

So over 18 months after she died. This would absolutely fit and explains why it's not mentioned in the PJ Files.

Was this a repeat of a program from three years ago?

Twice the translation says six years ago when referring to 2007.
