I agree, but not with the "counter-appeal" if that is what it is called... I do not now think that the McCanns have it in them to do so, or that it would be allowed. Otherwise this "vicious circle" will just be another merry-go-round like the search for their "missing" daughter. It can not go on forever!

Is this why there was blanket coverage in today's British mainstream press headlining Operation Grange's claim that 'we have reasonable grounds for thinking that Madeleine may still be alive?

My thoughts exactly.  They needed the words "MADDIE DETECTIVE" on the headlines today, to divert from the real "MADDIE DETECTIVE".  Another example of Mainstream Media attempting to bury the truth.

I do like one-liners, LOL.

I think the UK police are still trying to find the archer who shot the arrow into the eye of Harold in 1066 and haven't got round to the McCann case yet!

Hilarious!
spit coffee

As we've learned from the Maddie case, UK police work the case from the outside in.  Unfortunately the perps die before they get to them. nails
Redwood liked to work from the outside in. Other senior police officers who have solved major crime like to clear the ground in front of them first.

"Peeling the layers of an onion" is also another favourite of SY's press office.
Yes that old onion's got them chasing phantoms, and crying with embarrassment.

It's no coincidence that right at this time, Britain's very own Detective Chief Superintendent Mick Duthie pops out of the rotted woodwork to remind us (yet again) that Operation Grange are still looking for the stranger, and an alive Maddie.  It's like clockwork their timing!

None of them expected Dr Amaral, after such a brutal and sustained onslaught, to not only still be standing, but repeating that the evidence points tragically to Madeleine's death in Apartment 5A, and the parents hiding her body.

The beleaguered Operation Grange are desperately trying to have the last word here!

I'm surprised the "Detectives" didn't mention this  as well :-

Scotland Yard have also just announced that there is no reason to believe Piltdown Man is dead as they believe he was obducted by a paedophile gang. They are asking their media PR expert Carrie M to take a world tour to ask if anyone has seen Piltdown Man pictured above. Contributions towards Carrie's world tour are welcome and should be placed in a well sealed plain envelope addressed to Metodo 4, McTinn's House, PO Box 13, Wormwood Scrubbs. and clearly marked for attn. of MI5.

Well it's just about as up to date and just about as useful while we are all playing pantomime season.

Clarence has probably also pointed out to Gerry that by getting the MET to say what they did, it also sets them up nicely for a major appeal to the British Public.  Something along the lines of:

The dreadful Amaral and corrupt Portuguese system have taken all your money "for the search".  Poor Maddie (who the MET just said was still alive) will now never be found.  So please, please donate NOW so that we may resume the search...

Some suckers may chip in, but the overwhelming majority either don't care enough or simply don't believe the McCanns any more.  If 5 years x 29 MET officers cannot find an abductor... then most people will correctly conclude that there wasn't one.   Which is what the PJ realised after 6 months and from talking directly to the McCanns and their party.

The waste of UK time and money has been simply extraordinary - and hopefully this marks the end of it.

Have been an avid reader for years.  Just wanted to say........
Thank you to Leanne for making this possible.
Best wishes to GA.
After being despondent all these years I now find that hopeless has turned in to hopeful.
Thank you to this forum for being there for Madeleine and not for the parents, who will always be known as the enablers for the situation that Madeleine found herself in.
To use a 4 letter word (hope), this may be the end of the beginning for GA and justice for Madeleine,
And the beginning of the end for all perpetrators.

This all sounds very encouraging indeed!  I look forward to the detail and it's implications - preferably with the help of someone conversant with Portuguese law, if the need be.

Mrs

Let's hope the Supreme Court turns down the inevitable appeal of this decision. Enough is enough.

Now Mr. Amaral can force the British press to prove what a 'corrupt' 'liar' he is.

Looks like confirmations are starting to come out.  This in the Daily Mail online:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3547951/Portuguese-detective-WINS-appeal-against-libel-defeat-Madeleine-McCann-s-parents-NOT-pay-500-000-damages.html

big grin

The spin for the new appeal begins right away:

"The McCanns announced after the (original) verdict they would plough 'every penny' of the payout into the hunt for their daughter, three when she vanished on May 3 2007.

Amaral's appeal thwarted their hopes of spending the money."

Fantastic news!!!  I knew there was strength in numbers.  To Leanne who started the fund in the UK and everyone who helped with the appeal fund, no matter how large or small, you all deserve a huge cheer!!! Congratulations to Goncalo Amaral.  A man who never gave up against all the odds. :-)

The SUN online is also breaking the news.  Although interestingly it's almost a word-for-word copy of the Daily Mail story.  Looks like it's a press release from Team McCann so that the same spin ("the search money has been taken from us") can be maintained throughout the MSM.

Just so pleased to have this news, even if we can never get to truth of the missing child.  At least Mr. Amaral will have had his day in court and hopefully will be rid of all the cash problems.  joyce1938

Just aswell the Government have ploughed more than £12million pound into the search then, really, isn't it?

Boom!

Post by Bishop Brennan on 19.04.16 16:06

And here is the translated para 4 of the appeal ruling:

"4. From the above mentioned, it is agreed, in accordance with both appeals, to revoke the appealed decision and, considering the action against them to be unfounded, to acquit the appealing plaintiffs of the totality of the requests. The costs, in both instances [courts] are to be paid by the appealed subjects [Kate and Gerry McCann]."

Ouch!  That has GOT to hurt.

Will the McCanns risk another appeal to the Supreme Court?

Looks like that is a confirmed Yes.

"Lisbon lawyer Isabel Duarte tells The Associated Press she was notified Tuesday of the court's decision to uphold Goncalo Amaral's appeal against the order to pay Kate and Gerry McCann 500,000 euros ($568,000) in compensation. Duarte said she intended to fight the decision at the Supreme Court."

Not a surprise - no way was Gerry going to admit that he's lost.  Off we go again!
