Volunteers should do axed cops’ jobs, say Tory ministers after cutting 17,000 officers

The Police Federation says Home Secretary Theresa May’s plans are like “putting a little plaster on a patient who is bleeding to death”

Cost-cutting Tory ministers want volunteers to investigate crimes and interview victims after axing thousands of police jobs.
Home Secretary Theresa May said volunteers have a “greater role” to play in the police service following years of Tory austerity.
More than 17,000 police officers have been axed since 2010, with a further 22,000 now facing the boot by the end of the decade.
Shadow Police Minister Jack Dromey raged: “The Tory Government has slashed police officer numbers. Vital Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) are also set to be a thing of the past.
“Now Theresa May has the cheek to suggest that these jobs may be done by volunteers.”
Launching a consultation, Mrs May said volunteers like ‘special constables’ already play a “vital role” in policing - but can do much more.
“This Government wants to encourage those with skills in particular demand, such as those with specialist IT or accountancy skills, to get involved and help the police to investigate cyber or financial crime and, as their experience grows, to enable them to play a greater part in investigations,” she said.
Her consultation paper published yesterday makes clear volunteers will have a wide-ranging role in the coming years.
A greater reliance on volunteers “should mean a greater availability of police personnel (i.e. the volunteers themselves) to interview victims, take witness statements etc in the evenings and weekends”, the Home Office paper states.
Will Riches, vice chairman of rank-and-file body the Police Federation of England and Wales, raged: “This Government’s proposal for a new tier of police volunteers sounds like a half-way house between paid PCSOs and specials.

“Recruiting super-volunteers is no more a solution to the challenges of policing than a nurse putting a little plaster on a patient who is bleeding to death.”
Under the new rules, chief officers will be allowed to confer civilian staff with any of the powers of a police officer, apart from a list of core powers.
The list of includes making arrests, carrying out stop and searches and all powers under counter-terrorism legislation.
Labour warned giving more powers to civilian staff could also open the door to private firms like G4S taking a bigger role.
“The Tories must ask themselves if they are happy to preside over the hollowing out of our police force to the point where public protection on the frontline is being done by companies like G4S or untrained volunteers,” Mr Dromey blasted.

Perhaps we could 'find' 38 'volunteers' to 'replace' the 38, full time, extremely 'over-worked' OG 'police staff' (ergo: they'd be freed up to do proper 'coppering' for the WHOLE of London 'citizens', to benefit from), instead of 'ring fencing' an 'investigation' into an 'abduction', which they were ONLY ever 'TOLD' about, by only the 'abducted' child's OWN PARENTS, 8 years ago, which, to date, OG full time 'staff' 'don't have a single 'clue' about and there is not a scintilla of evidence, found by anyone, that an 'abduction' ever took 'place'!

eta: 'Don't 'think' the 38 'volunteers' would even 'need' the 30 'minutes' 'question time', to get 'somewhere' with their 'investigation', do you?

Volunteers to under take police officer roles in axed jobs

Post by willowthewisp on 10.09.15 13:23

Hi DougD.
One of the first thing that comes to mind and I am not stating volunteers may not have the skills criteria is.
We see so many cases thrown out of Court due to the lack of evidence, that if you "deviate from the professionalism of the Police", there is likely to be more trails collapsing?
What i find mind boggling is that elected people seem to lose basic common sense when they become Elected, that previous positions of employment can be some how filled by volunteers, they must have spent too much time near the incinerators closely inspecting the disposal of illegal drugs?
Yet come to their positions held in Government and their terms and conditions are forever escalating costs to the Tax payer is acceptable?
I think personally that the MSM and TV productions,Soaps,Big Brother,X factor and I'm a celebrity, especially the increase in the amount of sport , this is used by the Governments to Dumb the public down!!
The one or two political programmes used as conjecture of they only argue against each other there is no solution, which then helps their cause to the image of "Boring Politics", where the machine of Government takes over obscuring the real details of the often hidden agenda?
Just take a look at the legal aid calamity of how to process criminal cases, millionnnaires got legal aid ,Maxwell Brothers at their trail of defrauding the Mirror staff of the Company Pension and got off vertualy scott free? Amazing!
Just take a look at the Labour leadership election"you can have a vote, but only for who we want as Leader"Democracy yeah?

So, 'Jimmy 'the jewel' Nicker and his mate Harry 'the dipper' Lightfingers have 'volunteered' to 'patrol' Hatton Garden jewellery 'quarter'.

What could possibly 'go WRONG'!!!!

'So you never suspected anything'? said DCI Wall.

'You havin' a laff'? I told the geezer wot gave me the job, of volunteering, i was a deaf 'un, and Harry even took his 'white stick' with 'im to the interview'

'we never even saw of heard our 'ol gang mate Ronnie 'diamond geezer' Dazzler breaking into that jewellers shop that wuz robbed, innit'

'Nice earring Jimmy'

'Fanx, Ronnie give it to me, down the pub yesterday, fink it's 5 carrots.(sic) Well bling, innit?'

'If there ain't nuffing else, Nic, i'll gets back to me voluntary 'patrol'. Nobby 'no good' Brace-Lets 'as just flown in from that Spain place.

'Ok Jim, keep 'em peeled'

I reckon the REAL 'ol Bill should 'investigate' the 'disappearance/theft' of T May's 'brain cell'! (singular)

Well we do need a bit of job creation for all the immigrants that are about to land on our shores. A bit of volunteer work to keep them busy being 'busies' would be a world class UK government initiative - who knows it could be rolled out across Europe. Yikes Brussels could even dedicate an entire department to policy and strategy.

Sometimes you're better off listening to this to get through the day in order to keep your blood pressure at some reasonable level.

Volunteers to replace police officer roles

Post by willowthewisp on 11.09.15 11:00

Hi Aquila,
Tony Hart would not allow their faces in his gallery.
PS Jeanmonroe, keep up the scripts for Nicola, as they may come in (Andy) for her next LOR!
