Everything 'STOPS' for tea!

http://www.missingpeople.org.uk/latest-news/516-charity-asks-the-nation-to-stop-for-a-cup-of-tea-and-help-missing-people.html

20th March 2015.

The charity Missing People has today joined forces with Trinity Mirror to launch Everything Stops for Tea - a new campaign asking you to hold a special tea party for family, friends and colleagues on or around Friday 20th March, and support those who are missing, or are missing someone they love.

Everything Stops for Tea is being championed by Missing People Ambassador Fiona Phillips, who promoted the campaign at a tea party with parents of missing children Peter Lawrence, Peter Boxell and Sarah Godwin at the Victoria and Albert museum today (Tuesday 3 March).

Fiona Phillips said, “I know from spending time with parents of missing children that these families go through the most indescribable pain. Everything Stops for Tea is a brilliant idea because everyone loves a cup of tea and a slice of cake and a natter. But what makes it really special is they will be helping the charity Missing People to offer a lifeline when someone disappears.”

Peter Lawrence, who will mark the sixth anniversary of the disappearance of his daughter Claudia two days before the event, is throwing two tea parties in her honour. He said, “Living with a missing loved one is incredibly hard and it means a huge amount to families like mine that people are willing to take time out and support the charity Missing People in honour of our missing loved ones.”

It is also being supported by the charity’s partner – the UK’s favourite contemporary choir - Rock Choir, with their members being invited to throw parties across the country. Caroline Redman-Lusher, Founder of Rock Choir said, “It’s a privilege to be able to support Missing People’s Everything Stops for Tea campaign. Rock Choir has over 17,000 members country-wide who care a great deal about the success of the charity. Baking and socialising to raise money for such an important cause is not only satisfying but great fun. I’m sure they'll all be singing while they're baking.”

Chief Executive at Missing People, Jo Youle, said “Time and time again families missing a loved one tell us that they wish the whole world would stop and help in the search for them. With Everything Stops for Tea we are asking our supporters to take a moment, enjoy a cup of tea and a slice of cake together, and remember those that are missing across the country. By doing so they can raise vital funds for us to support those families and continue the search.”

Readers can get involved and support the 250,000 people that go missing every year, as well as the families suffering the heartache of searching for them, by visiting www.missingpeople.org.uk/everythingstops or texting TEA to 70660* to get a Party Pack.

The Everything Stops for Tea Party Pack includes fantastic fundraising event tips and materials to help readers host their own event. You can also join the fun on Twitter and Facebook by sharing a 'mugshot’ with special stickers included in the pack.

Every pound raised will go towards Missing People continuing to provide a lifeline when someone disappears.

Well, they have to do 'something', ANYTHING, to 'distract' from BL's inquest, on 20th March, i suppose.

How stopping for a cuppa actually helps the 'desperate hunt' for Madeleine, to ACTUALLY find her, is anybody's guess!

Remind me, how is the Missing People 'charidy' getting on/progressing with THAT particular 'search'?

Our 'Lady of the Fake' does indeed 'appear' to be 'missing'! (oxymoron?)

Quick, QUICK, every police force in UK should issue/put out an ARA! (Adult Rescue Alert)

Hope one of the 'posties' on his round, finds her!

What is not 'missing' though is the following,

Missing People's CONSTANT 'pleading' for money!

FP: "But what makes it really special is they will be helping (donate) the charity Missing People....."

PL: "that people are willing to take time out and support (donate) the charity Missing People...."

Caroline Redman-Lusher: "It’s a privilege to be able to support Missing People’s Everything Stops for Tea campaign. Baking and socialising to raise money for such an important cause ...."

Chief Executive at Missing People, Jo Youle, said “ By doing so they can raise vital funds for us to support those families and continue the search.” (for Madeleine?)

The Everything Stops for Tea Party Pack includes fantastic fundraising event tips and materials to help readers host their own event.

Every pound raised will go towards Missing People..........
-------------------------------------------------------------------

Missing People 'charidy' HAS to 'raise' £1.71 MILLION, every year, to 'pay for' SALARIES, PENSIONS, STAFF COSTS, before a single penny is 'spent' on a single 'missing' person!

'US' first, 'missing' persons, later!

£1.71 MILLION! every year.

Our 'Lady of the Fake' may be 'missing' but the £million pound, er, 'charidy' staff 'expenses' 'begging bowl', isn't!

JO Youle, Chief Exec, at Missing People, 'donated' £10 to Gerry McCanns 'charidy' fundraiser, and then promptly got it straight back, from him, as a 'donation' to her 'charidy' Missing People!

Missing People 'charidy' is, imo, a total and utter 'scam'

Loadsa dosh for the 'staff' not so much for the 'missing'

Laughed my backside off at that.

How many ambassadors has this charity got and are they entitled to claim expenses?

If yes, how much has each individual ambassador claimed?

Shouldn't this info. be in the public domain?

I don't know in the UK, but in the US it should. However most of the time they employ smart bookkeepers that can make those posts look very different. The non-profit ~ charity circuit is imo a whole separate kind of mafia.

How very English and patriotic this 'everything stops for tea' campaign is. How very English to gather people together to bake a cake and have a cuppa to raise funds. How very, very English.  It almost makes me want to become middle class.

This would be a very funny thread if it all was not so sad.

To answer my own question about how many ambassadors this charity has  -   http://www.missingpeople.org.uk/about-us/who-we-are/our-ambassadors.html

Now if they are able to and do claim expenses that might be one hefty whack from the charity's funds.

Indeed, pleb, but their expenses might very well be hiding under "PR costs" or under the separate activities.

Btw Kate has had a lot of photoshop done on that photo.

From what I've seen there is never reporting on the MP website of exactly how much an individual event raises. All those marathons, coffee mornings etc and yet nothing specific to say 'this event raised £xxxx'. I stand to be corrected if someone has seen such a statement but I haven't. Nope, it's onto the next exciting event.

There's lovely reporting of The Postcode Lottery funding and I'd love to know if that is earmarked for the lobbying side of MP's operation.

The annual conference (I think they've had two now) funded from the charity's coffers extended to 100 participants including staff and guest speakers. One of those guest speakers, a chief constable who gave his valuable time to speak at the conference is now under investigation (not related to MP) and his resignation from the police has been denied.

lj, you are right. It depends how separate activities are treated and as they are not reported in terms of income generation then we'll never know.

Whichever way you look at it there is nothing like the transparency of accounting that one would expect from a charity, just the bear minimum requirement by law.

I'd like to see a breakdown of each individual fund-raising event.
