PETITION UPDATES - The target is now 10,000 SIGNATURES by 30 March 2015

Post by Tony Bennett on 14.10.14 9:47

I will use this thread to post up-to-date news about the progress of the petition on the Prime Minister's website - which calls for:

A full, independent public enquiry into the conduct of both the official and private investigations into the reported disappearance of Madeleine McCann.

At this momemt, 929 have signed it in the opening 16 days. It now stands at 221st in the list of the most popular petitions on the Prime Minister's website.

The following paragraph appeared in the Coalition agreement signed by David Cameron and Nick Clegg in May 2010:

"Once an e-petition has passed 10,000 signatures, Departments will provide a response that will appear on the website and be e-mailed to all signatories who opted in to receive updates on that petition. Responses will include a statement of the Government’s policy on the issue, and details of any relevant parliamentary processes that are ongoing".

That means the Home Secretary, Theresa May, will be forced to make an official reply to the demand for a public inquiry into the conduct of both Operation Grange and the McCann Team's investigations.

The petition site closes on 30 March 2015 ahead of the General Election.

This gives us all an ambitious target.

To get to the target, another 9,071 signatures are needed. And after today, we have 167 days left.

That means we need another 55 signatures every day between now and 30 March 2015 to reach the 10,000 target.

It needs an all-round effort from active members here.

We can persuade relatives, friends and contacts to sign.

We can (repeatedly) use Twitter, Facebook and other social media.

We can ask our contacts to circulate their contacts.

And so on.

Please post up your news and ideas about this petition on this thread, and 'hentie' and I will likewise keep everyone posted on any developments.

Very good news already!

If you click on this link: http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/ and click on the link down the page which says 'See more trending petitions', the petition has now gone back into the 12 most trending petitions (it's 8th most trending, with 12 more signatures in the last hour).

If we can keep it in that 'top 12 trending' petitions for as long as possible, that will help.

Extra thanks to anyone here who was one of the 12

Try this link - I think there is a typo in the first post.  If I am correct, perhaps someone can amend it.

amended to say that I think the typo is in Tony's signature

I do not know if you are a British citizen living abroad, if so, you ARE able to sign - check the link.

Apologies to 'Jamming' and thanks to 'springer', I've now corrected the signature.

Even better news, when I just checked, 23 had signed in the last hour, making it the 5th most trending petition

Good morning Tony. No, 3rd generation living in SA.
I do feel that this case and other seemingly connected and unconnected happenings in abroad are important to keep an eye on. After all we are living in a global village, ruled by unseen hands. What affects the one affects everyone. Especially so when it comes from the Seat of the Beast imo.

The number of signers on the petition to the Prime Minister has tonight topped 1,000.

Thank you to each and every one of you who has taken the trouble to sign this petition - and even more so to those who have done extra things to promote it

The numbers who have signed the petition has now risen to 1,082.

7 have signed within the last hour, and if you click on the Prime Minister petition home page: http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk it is now the 9th most trending petition.

If you've not signed yet, now would be a brilliant moment to do it, please, as this would keep it in the 'Top 12' trending petitions page where it wil be seen by many new people, link: http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/69944

Someone must be promoting it at the moment, so thank you to whoever that is

13 signatures in the past hour make it the 6th highest trending petition at the moment on the Prime Minister's website: http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk

We need another 20 signatures or so to push this petition into the top 200 petitions on the PM's list of petitions - can we do this today?

The Greenink Challenge - Please help us make Greenink211 lose her/his bet

Thank you to all who signed this petition yesterday - over 100 in a day - taking the petition to the 196th highest petition out of nearly 6,000 on the Prime Minister's website, with (currently) 1,192 signatures.

Can I appeal to anyone reading this post who is a member of any Faceboook group to regularly mention this petition on their groups, repetition is important. In doing so, always give the link, of course, and update group members with the numbers who have signed already.

The Greenink challenge

We have a new target, courtesy of a frequent, and nasty, Twitter poster known as 'greenink211'. S/he also posts on the notorious JATYK2 forum.

Here is a series of three tweets last week:

green @greenink211

@zampos I bet you ten quid you don't get more than a couple of thousand names on that petition. LOL #McCann -12 Oct

Dumpling  @tdurbo

@greenink211 @zampos Bet ME ten quid. In fact make it £100

Anthony Bennett  ‏@zampos

I don't bet @greenink211 but will pay OXFAM £10 if we don't get 2,000 names on new #McCann petition http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/69944 #WillYouPayIfWeDo?

++++++++++++

So, Greenink211 has issued the challenge: s/he will pay me £10 if Helen Williamson's petition doesn't make 2,000 signatures.

I responded by offering to donate £10 to OXFAM if we don't make 2,000 signatures (which I wil do anyway). I asked Greenink if s/he would also donate £10 to OXFAM if the petition did 'top' 2,000 signatures, but so far as I'm aware, s/he hasn't responded yet.

Please do all you can to make Greenink lose his/her bet:     http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/69944

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

EDITED TO ADD:

The undermentioned petition has 1,199 signatures on it so far. So as things stand, if we get another six signatures on 'our' petition, we will move the petition up from 195th place to 194th. I am not sure whether to sign this petition to make describing casseroles as 'pies' a criminal offence, so maybe someone on here with greater cooking expereince than I have (that'll mean all members, shame to say) could advise please?

Petition wording: Make wrongly describing a casserole with a pastry lid as a pie a criminal offence.

Responsible department: Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs

For too long customers in pubs and restaurants have ordered what is described on the menu as a pie only to be served with casserole in a pot covered by a puff pastry lid. This is not a pie and is also curiously difficult to consume. A pie is defined by the OED as "A baked dish of fruit, or meat and vegetables, typically with a top and base of pastry." This petition urges the implementation of criminal sanctions upon the owners of food outlets that serve items described as pies without a pastry base. Exemptions will apply for Shepherds, Cottage and Fish Pies.

Madeleine petition on PM's website now 170th

Post by Tony Bennett on 26.11.14 18:35

Since I last posted, the number of signatures on the petition has risen to 1,456 and it is thus 170th on the list of the most popular petitions (there are around 6,000 petitions altogether on the site).

It represents about another 7 signatures a day over the past 4 weeks.

As each day goes by, with ever-more fantastic stories in the Britsh press of what might have happened to Madeleine and who might have abducted her, the need for a fully independent enquiry into all aspects of this case becomes, in the view of many, ever more apparent.

It looks like mentioning this petition on Facebook groups is the best way forward, so if you are a member of any group whose members may be interested in signing it, please post a link to the petition - thanks

Whilst on the subject of the petition, with 1,464 votes it now stand at 167th and needs just TWO more votes to haul it into 165th position. If you've not signed it yet, maybe now is the time to do so - just click on http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/69944 and sign it now - thanks

Meanwhile the number of people who have watched Richard Hall's 4-hour documentary about Madeleine, 'Buried...', on YouTube has swept past 200,000 and a few minutes ago stood at 202,008.

Adding on those who've seen it on his dedicated site
www.madeleinedocumentary.com and from buying and watching his DVDs, the total number of people who have watched it approaches half a million.

Which is a heck of a lot more than wasted £10 buying Summers and Swan's recent book of smooth nonsense

I had an interesting comment come back from a friend after sending out an email.

A professional artist, she was obviously aware of the case, but not in any detail. By no means a reader of mass MSM. Anyway, after reading my brief appraise of the situation, she said it suddenly made sense, as she's always thought

"the heart wrenching loss and grief a mother would feel (and often displayed with other grieving parents) were always missing from Kate's McCann's face. She looked scared if anything - or was trying not to!"

That is what i find so bizarre in this case, even if they are aware that Madeleine has possibly/probably died regardless of the circumstance, wouldn't any parent grieving the thought of death of their child or that she is still alive in the worst case scenario and suffering terribly, be strongly affected by that? It is very rare that a missing child that young is still alive after such a long time. There is no controlling the flood of emotions grieving parents go through, that is why it is referred to as an emotional rollercoaster, yet the McC's seem pretty much in control of their emotions in interviews and the photos we have seen of them online.
There is parental guilt also, all the what if's, and maybe there was something i could have done to prevent it from happening, all those questions that plague grieving parents after a child dies or is lost.

It's not just the emotions (or lack thereof) but also all the 'tells' they can't control. They abound in these in their interviews but they go ignored by the police, as they have everything so well sewn up with their lawyers and whoever else is affording them this unprecedented level of protection, I would imagine. On another thread Peter Mac has posted a series of photos of the McCanns smiling. Seeing them altogether like that, you look at their faces and see that the hurt that should be there is missing. They are beaming like teenagers in the first flush of love, and this is just days after their daughter went missing. I just can't see how they can be like that. It defies belief. Other parents who have lost children, James Bulger's mother for example, may be able to force a smile if necessary after all these years, but there is a deep sense of pain and hurt about her that she will never be able to shake off. It's there in her face no matter what she does. With the McCanns, this isn't present. It's just not there. The faces they pull seem fake at a core level, which is why so many of us just don't believe them. It's instinct.

I remember when Ian Huntley appeared on TV before the bodies had been discovered. I remember feeling uneasy and suspicious about him for some reason, although I couldn't put my finger on it at the time, and I was quite shocked that I had felt alerted to something wrong before the truth came out. It has to be unspoken communication and instinct at work. I get the same unease about the McCanns all the time. What they are saying isn't 'jiving' with their unspoken communications.

In my opinion.

How many times have police said that a suspect's emotions were very odd, and
Yes i'm sure they think the McC's behaviour has been very hinky to say the least, when the police are not new to missing child cases and dealing with the parents of missing children.

Exactly, and when people especially parents of a missing child are caught in lies, it is very suspect and a huge red flag indeed, IMO.
What are they hiding by their lies? And the truth doesn't change, ever.
