Social media is powerful - McCann

The father of Madeleine McCann said social media is "powerful" and should be used to "improve the world" a s he backed a national alert system to help find missing children.

Kate and Gerry McCann, parents of missing girl Madeleine McCann arrive at the Mondrian London hotel to attend a function in aid of promoting Child Rescue Alert.

Gerry and Kate McCann, whose three-year-old daughter disappeared during a family holiday to Portugal in 2007, joined the parents of murdered schoolgirl April Jones to raise funds for the Child Rescue Alert with the charity Missing People.
It comes after an inquest was opened yesterday into the death of Brenda Leyland, whose body was found in a hotel room two days after she featured in a Sky News report exposing internet "trolling" of the McCanns.
Mr McCann declined to comment but said social media was an important tool for the Child Rescue Alert, a UK-wide system which uses email, text messages and websites including Twitter to try to secure the safe return of missing children.
Speaking at the Mondrian hotel in central London, Mr McCann said: "The key thing about social media is it's powerful. This is a way of using it to do good. That's what we should be using these powerful technologies for - to try and improve the world.
Asked whether they felt it was right for the media to identify internet trolls, Mr McCann replied: "I don't really want to talk about trolls, we're here very much to talk about child rescue."
Coral and Paul Jones called on Twitter and Facebook to do more to tackle internet trolls after they received "horrible" abuse online following the death of their five-year-old daughter who was kidnapped and murdered in October 2012.
Asked whether they had sympathy with Madeleine's parents who have previously voiced concerns about online abuse, Mrs Jones said: "We've had some ourselves and it took to going in the press and on the news to get it taken off.
"It is horrible, the people that do it."
Asked whether the police could do more to tackle online trolls, she replied: "It's the internet people as well because the police can't do everything."
Mr Jones said: "They should have their own policing force of some sort to do that, with legal ways to prosecute people."
Actor Hugh Grant, former newsreader Sir Trevor McDonald and presenter Fiona Phillips were among the guests at a dinner organised by Missing People to raise funds for the Child Rescue Alert.
Mrs Jones said she is still struggling to come to terms with her daughter's death.
Mark Bridger was given a whole life sentence after he was convicted of April's abduction and murder and of perverting the course of justice by unlawfully disposing, destroying or concealing her body.
April had been playing with friends close to her home on the Bryn Y Gog estate in Machynlleth, mid-Wales, when Bridger, a former slaughterhouse worker, enticed her into his car. Her body has never been found.
Following the recent two-year anniversary of her daughter's disappearance, Mrs Jones said: "I'm still struggling now to this day. We take each day as it comes. Everybody's different in how they cope. Me, personally, I take each day as it comes.
"Some days are better. My husband takes it different, my kids take it different."
Mr Jones added: "I have days where I'm absolutely fine. Two or three days on the trot. Then I have down days. I need to keep busy."
Mrs McCann said she believed the Child Rescue Alert could make "a huge difference" in finding missing children.
"You only have to look at the statistics to see how the amber alert in the USA has been successful - 685 children have been found alive and reunited with their families since it started," she said.
"I believe the Child Rescue Alert system could do the same here."
Mr McCann added: "I think it's an opportunity, the Child Rescue Alert, for the British public to help. In our case, there was a great outpouring of people wanting to help. It only takes one person coming forward, responding to that piece of media, that could save a child's life and nothing can be more important."

==========================================

So still hanging on to Coral and Paul Jones 'coat tails?

THEY did have their child 'abducted'!

PROVEN, beyond DOUBT!

They didn't just SAY their child was 'abducted'...............she WAS.

WHEN are the McCanns going to provide the world with, a scintilla of evidence, that their 'missing' child 'WAS ABDUCTED'?.
----------------------------------------------------

My opinion?

Early Xmas 'bash' for 'Missing People' charidy and McCann sycophants!

Actor Hugh Grant, former newsreader Sir Trevor McDonald and presenter Fiona Phillips were among the guests at a dinner organised by Missing People to raise funds for the Child Rescue Alert.

How much, if any, did this 'do' cost Missing People Charidy?

I wonder if HUGE GRANT 'donated' £10,000 for the CRA?

He gave £5,000 to both G&K for their Hacked Off campaign 'support' Missing people 'charidy runs' didn't he?

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gerry and Kate McCann, whose three-year-old daughter disappeared during a family holiday to Portugal in 2007...
============================

Surely G&K should DEMAND that 'line' be 'corrected' to "whose three-years-old daughter 'WAS ABDUCTED' during a family holiday......."

Shouldn't they?

Social media is powerful, eh? It's the only form of media left with a true voice after everything else has been gagged and hogtied over this bloody case!

In my opinion.

Just re-read the 'article'
============================
KM said "It only takes one person coming forward, responding to that piece of media, that could save a child's life "
----------------------------

'that piece of media, that could "SAVE" a child's life'?

I wonder what she means by THAT?

Surely, 'that piece of media, that could 'RESCUE' a child"

Might just be me, 'over thinking'.

HOBS! winkwink

But Gerry did not use it to search for Madeleine.

No walk the talk.

No put his money where his mouth is.

Just empty talk, spin as usual.

All about image projection, saying the right thing at the right place at the right time.

He will make a good marketing man.

Do you remember Brenda Leyland, McCann, she tried to improve the world by asking questions about your daughter who you said had been abducted and look what happened to her. it seems to me that you are overstepping the mark concerning social media.

If you cover one eye in the photos and look at the face, then cover the other eye, notice what your immediate feelings are.
One thing I have noticed on looking at narcissistic/sociopaths' faces is that the two eyes tell a very different story.

I just tried that out and to me KM `s right eye is saying, "I wish I could tell you what happened" and her left is saying, " I must not blink or they will know"
GM`s  right is saying, " I hope I`ve got this anguished father look off to a T" The left is saying, "Do you think they notice that I am a cold hard Bstard? Do I care?"
All IMO

It is disgusting the way that the McCanns will attach themselves to other cases like leeches.

I remember when Shannon Matthews was first found, Clarence Mitchell got Sky News to read a McStatement about how pleased Kate and Gerry were that Shannon was found, and that it gave them hope.

Backfired a bit though when Karen Matthews was arrested a few hours later.

Notice the attempt at subliminal brainwashing. The word "missing" displayed behind them.

CEOP is right there...in your face on the advertising billboard behind them. to me that and every other organisation plastered on there is a big NO to me...These agencies pay hefty money for the grandees to attend their events and that is money which is given by kind members of the public who want to help in any way they can when children are missing. They don't realise that a good percentage of their donation will never be used for what they scrambled in their purse for...or pledged via their bank account. The find Madeleine fund is not a charity and was not allowed to be one because it would not benefit ALL missing children and had so many clauses in it that it had to be a LIMITED COMPANY. This has a corporate stench about it!

MRNOODLES ....deep breath there! They are ideally suited to push for this. What could be more persuasive than a "poor, sad couple who lost their wee girl". It ticks all the boxes and pushes the guilt button that we should not think harshly of them.....or so TPTB would have us believe. trouble is ....we are not blindly, stupidly following the story...narrative if you will.
The McCann rogatories are so telling that it is quite obvious that
Operation Grange are a whitewash program but as time goes on and the budget increases for their "review" it must become apparent that this cannot be "brushed under the carpet". We are mistaken for fools, plebs, trolls but the reality is that Madeleine is at the heart of this and we stay...no matter how long.

CEOP...right 'there'
-------------------------------

That would be the CEOP that were GIVEN, gratis, a list of over 2,300 'perverts' in the UK, by the Toronto Police over 2 YEARS ago, but did NOTHING.

Probably because of a DOCTOR and deputy HEAD MASTER,(and who knows how many OTHER 'upstanding pillars of the community) were ON the 'list'

And those lovely chaps, with their 'social standing' in the 'community' couldn;'t possibly be involved, in THAT sort of thing, could they?

"Do you know who they are? Get out of my office. How very dare you say that about my esteemed colleague, who, by the way, participates in many 'fun runs' to raise money for charity."

(just like 'paedos' JS, SN. RH etc.,)

That would be the CEOP where THOUSANDS of underaged girls were raped and abused, in Rotherham, Derby, Oxford, Rochdale, etc., for YEARS when Jim Gamble WAS the CEO of the organisation.

ALL THE ABUSE in these places 'happening' right under his nose, on his 'watch'

YEARS of 'it'!

From what i 'gather' Gamble spent most of his time at the 'brilliant' CEOP, he was CEO of, thankfully, now EX-CEO, 'looking' at disgusting images and videos of child 'abuse'.

And the 'abuse' of thousands of girls was 'happening, right OUTSIDE, in the 'real' world, of his carpeted offices, on his 'watch!

mad mad mad

If saying 'this' makes me a 'troll' ,,,,,,,,,,so be it!

Gamble can 'grass' me up to er, somebody, can't he?

"there's a 'nasty' old lady saying 'horrible things' about me, online. Arrest her!, arrest her!, she's 'dangerous', I'm 'scared'"

SS my 'rant' as 'evidence' Jim.

I have!

I am totally with you on this Mr Noodles and can understand your frustration and anger. We all feel impotent and some of us suffer from the derision of others who think they know something about this poor couple and all this is about is a campaign of hate heaped upon them.
I personally have no time for sheeple who, having read a couple of articles a few years back, file it away only to resurrect it again when one of us brings their attention to the matter or a truly sad and disgraceful consequence unfolds. They stick their tuppence worth in, shake it about and withdraw a pound. Only it is a pound of our flesh and a shake of our hearts.
Last night I was subjected to a tirade on FB from "friends" of mine because I posted Sonia`s excellent video and invited anyone who felt suitably moved to comment and/or debate.
What a spectacular waste of my time. You cannot educate these ignoramuses. Needless to say my friends list is somewhat smaller today.
My own loved ones are expressing concern for my wellbeing because I am so involved in this matter. But that is only because, sad to say, they are not as moved as I am. I can forgive them because they are worried for me but if I cannot convince people who care about me that I am not a conspiracy theory nutjob, then what chance do any of us have out there in the jungle?
That`s why I hang out here because someone else understands what drives us. More power to us all.

I wouldn't worry.

The McCanns and David Cameron are completely impotent and powerless when it comes to the internet.

All of the main social media players are based in America and they have millions of American users who value their 1st amendment. David Cameron has no jurisdiction over what is published in America. The only way Cameron could censor McCann dissent is to block sites like facebook and twitter in the UK, rather like they have blocked torrent sites.

Can you really see that happening?
