Missing 14 year old girl - Alice Gross

Post by Doug D on 06.09.14 17:49

From the Met Police Press Releases today:

Further appeals following disappearance of 14-year-old Alice Gross

Snippets:

‘The footage shows cyclists on the towpath arriving just before Alice Gross walks past along the Grand Union Canal at 16.23 on Thursday 28 August.’

‘The investigation continues to be treated as a missing person's inquiry but due to the high risk nature of this investigation and the concerns for Alice's welfare the Homicide and Major Crime Command (HMCC) are now leading on the investigation but continue to be supported by officers from Ealing.’

There is no information at this stage to suggest that anything untoward may have happened to Alice but detectives retain an open mind and consideration has been given to the fact that she may have become a victim of crime. This is only one line of enquiry but detectives stress that with the HMCC now providing additional resources and expertise to locate Alice they hope to return her home safe and well.

Detective Chief Inspector Andy Chalmers from the Homicide and Major Crime Command said: "I would urge everyone to taken a good look at the pictures released today to see if it jogs any memories of the day Alice went missing.’

...........................

Sad, but clearly a completely different approach. (Not sure what the 'high risk nature of the investigation' relates to).

Detectives retain an open mind’.  If only!

10 days in and no government intervention, dramatic front page headlines, calls for CM, creation of a fighting fund, etc etc.

Just letting them get on with their job, and asking for help from the public, just as it should be.

Met Police update today at 16.00

‘Searches are continuing in the Grand Union Canal in the vicinity of Hanwell. We have been searching this area since Friday, 29 August. Underwater and Confined Space Search Teams and Specialist Dog Units are on scene. Surrey Police and Sussex Police have both provided specialist resources to the Met as part of this search. The search area has been expanded as directed by the investigation. NPTD further.

All lines of enquiry are still open at this time and this remains a missing person investigation at this stage.’

+ The man arrested remains in police custody at a West London Police station.

..............................................

And now they’re using those ‘notoriously unreliables’.

Will they never learn (and take notice of GM and now it seems Ms Swan)

Who is it that decides which pictures are to be used when a person goes missing ? it just seems that the ones serving Alice started with younger version ,and since then now we see the real version of how she looks. about 2 years older. is it the cute look that police  or parents put over?  the Latvian chap is available  or just coincidence? ofcourse we all hope she will reappear fine after a few weeks away from home .  joyce1938

HOW does 'putting out' pictures of Alice as a 'baby' as a 'six year old' indeed, 'cute' pictures of her from YEARS ago, possibly 'help' us 'find' her?

Am i 'looking' for a 4, 6, 10 years old Alice?

I think not.

The parents 'appeal' was NOT, imo, very 'convincing'.

No tears, no extreme pleading, offering EVERYTHING they have, to a possible 'captor', for her 'return', body language 'suspect'.

The Alice missing 'big hole' at her home, etc.,

Wasn't that what the McCanns said on CW? "the 'missing' Madeleine 'big hole' at home"

I'm personally 'cynical' of ALL these 'missing' persons 'cases' until proven otherwise.

I hope, beyond hope, that Alice IS 'safe' somewhere.

But given the Mikaeel Kular, Philpotts, Matthews, Balloon boy 'cases' of late i'm erring on the side of caution.

Sad, isn't it?

eta: Will NCA/CEOP be making 'a minute for Alice' viral video?

If NOT, WHY not?

They did one for Madeleine McCann, didn't they?

I'm glad you think the same! It a horrible thing to think, and harder to put into words. The constant talk of 'missing her presence in the house' seem a tad surreal imo.

I'm not sure if most people would describe this as an "emotional" plea.

My daughter will be fourteen in a couple of weeks. God forbid, if she went missing I would immediately think that someone had harmed her as there could no other reason why she wasn't at home. Imo the parents here seem to be assuming that Alice can hear them as they are asking her to get in contact, they want her home. Does this mean that the parents are aware of a good reason why Alice wouldn't want to be at home?

Re: Missing 14 year old girl - Alice Gross

Post by mouse on 26.09.14 20:45

Afraid I can't agree with opening post. I posted my concerned feelings about this case on another thread a while ago. Something isn't right, but I'm afraid unlike some others on here - my feelings are once again unsure of the direction of the police enquiry on this. Some are saying she is not the young cute image we have been given - she is only 14 though! Which means she is not a missing person, but a missing child who should be in school right now. Instead she has been missing a full month now without much, until now, of a national appeal to find her. Remember also this this young child is possibly suffering anorexia, if early press reports are to be believed. She certainly appears rather thin and vulnerable.

So why did it take nearly a month before the police started talking about this Latvian man - who apparently after trying to kill his wife, managed the second time by beating her to death, then burying her. Who after serving his time, came to the UK, married and moved into accomodation owned by a charged Paedadophile (who was serving time for his crime - when he died, very coincidentally, 2 weeks ago....) The Latvian man - who also had faced charges here in UK back in I believe 2007 for sexual assault on a 14 year, but charges were dropped for what reason I don't know - but we do know that he hasn't been seen since Alice's disappearance on that day.

Also why was the Crimewatch episode featuring an appeal from her mother - over a week ago now, moved from its slot of 10pm (to make way at the last minute for yet another Scottish by-election programme - like we hadn't had them on all week - and one that wasn't even scheduled, and Alice's story shunted near to the end of the episode, so most people wouldn't have seen it. And because of the late time - there was no update - hardly helpful to finding Alice.

Will be interesting to hear the police  answer questions on this case when they, and the public prosecutor are called to answer questons at the Select Committee hearing on this. After all, weren't these professional bodies going to start listening now  - or is it the case, like Rotherham, that they don't care about young vulnerable under-age girls in the country.

As for her family, I think her mum is being strong, trying to keep brave and positive - Alice does have a sister. As for her father - I thought he looked like a man devastated, didn't look like he'd slept for ages. Probably what many people would look like if their young child had gone missing. I don't think you could tell too much else at this stage, from their appeal.

Re: Missing 14 year old girl - Alice Gross

Post by jeanmonroe on 27.09.14 1:56

I'm sure 'pinky' Mitchell would have asked his 'paymasters' by now, if he can erm, 'represent' Alice's parents, being the big hearted, 'i'll help any deserving person/persons', fellow he is.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/1903707/Kate-and-Gerry-McCann-spokesman-advising-Scarlett-Keelings-mother.html

"She (Fiona Mackeown) just wondered if I could give her some advice. Gerry and Kate are fully aware that I have been in touch with her and if somebody with a genuinely deserving case thinks I can help, then I will."

AND HE DID, 'represent' Fiona MacKeown, the convicted benefits fraudster, who stole over £51,000 of taxpayers money.

I'm sure Pinky did not know Fiona was de-frauding the state, on a grand scale, but he did 'help' her in the months BEFORE, and up to, the date of her conviction.

Like he said, 'Fiona's was a genuinely deserving case' (in his opinion)

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1270092/Mother-murdered-Scarlett-Keeling-escapes-jail-20-000-benefits-fraud.html

Just to add: 'Pinky' did NOT even turn up in court to support Fiona's 'genuinely deserving case' on the day she was found guilty of benefits fraud.

What a great guy, huh?

And, i'm sure, he'll 'waive' any sort of 'retainer' FEE, in this deserving case.

He'll still have his 'retainer' of £28,000pa, paid to him from donations to Madeleine's Fund, a private limited company, to fall back on, won't he?

Clarence 'Pinky' Mitchell, PPC, what a great guy, i'll think you'll all agree..............................NOT!

And also, sadly, confirmation if anyone needed it that Yellow ribbons, candlelit vigils, prayers, T shirts, appeals to Come Home, and all the rest of the mawkish paraphernalia
do not do anything.
What produces results is painstaking searches in dreadful places by dedicated professionals.
(I was a 'frogman' - as we were then allowed to call them - and live with the memories of those years. Many not good.)

There is a report that considerable efforts were taken to conceal the body.
Does this indicate a blue bag ?

Yes, on hearing the sad news this morning I did wonder if the dogs had -for want of a much better phrase, my apologies- got the result.

Police have stated that significant efforts had been made to hide this young girls body, and they seemingly found her so soon after the dogs were brought in to help, after a whole month of Police searches, as well as the local community being very much involved. According to reports, Tito and Muzzy, the dogs Op Grange took over to Praia da Luz, were involved. So unreliable.....?

Article here, link only I'm afraid, I'm can't c&p on ipad

I wonder if Gerry McCann still considers the dogs to be unreliable?
Also. I wonder what Kate's views are as an ambassador of missing people thinks about dogs being involved in searches. Does she just vote they should not be used?

'Specialist Dog Units' had been on the scene at least from 7th Sep (& probably before?) according to MetPolice bulletin of that date.

It shows how difficult their job was though, when the body was found almost exactly in the prime search area, within a couple of hundred yards of the last confirmed sighting and where her bag was found weeks ago.

If that is the case, that the dogs were called in so early, then it indicates that the Police Force put a great deal of trust and confidence in the capabilities of the dogs and that they are considered a first line of defense.
So terribly sad for the young girl and her family but thank goodness, that however hard this murderer tried to conceal, he was caught out by the canine skills.
No one should be able to doubt them now, nor cast doubt upon their incontestable skills.
