Its an absolute disgrace and what makes it worse is that we're not allowed to know what arguments the state advanced for taking him away from his parents because it all takes place in secret

Doctors and the state playing God as usual.

Hope he gets to the treatment centre in the Czech Republic ok.

Couldn`t see where to donate.

This is one of many disgraceful happenings under the NHS.

See last week`s Daily Mail "Cold hands ....  " for the disgraceful state of affairs that thousands of thyroid patients have to endure.

MPs here are already asking major questions about why the draconian EUROPEAN ARREST WARRANT was issued by the police and the CPS to arrest this poor man.

UPDATE:  NOW 203,000-plus views - that's 50,000 more in the hour-and-a-half since the OP:  over 550 new views a minute or about 10 new views a second..

What a great victory for the Internet!

Bloke finds out from the internet about the best treatment for his son when his consultants don't tell him and block him getting the best treatment for his son.

THEN he uses the internet to great effect to inform the world about medical and police abuse of power.

The mainstream media got this story wrong from the get-go. A bloke with a camera and a YouTube link has made the mainstream media look really stupid

Of scandalous medical cabals and cliques, and the persecution of dissenters.

Post by comperedna on 31.08.14 15:32

Re Hypothyroidism. I had never had any reason to consider this problem... until some time after I got sick with a large cluster of almost unliveable with symptoms, all of which were particularly to bear as I am an electric power chair user with all the additional complications that can bring. I had every test in the book which came back negative and I, who have always been used to feeling fine, felt more and more sick and unwell all the time, and cold and shivery and large amounts of hair fell out including the outer parts of my eyebrows. I was given more Xrays and blood tests and vast amounts of expensive medications of all types, none of which helped, and none of which I needed (I only needed a few pence a day's worth of artificial thyroid hormone tablets, as it later turned out).

A particularly unpleasant little GP, who had been allocated to me when my own GP retired said ... of course your TSH is very low and you are hypothyroid, and this could account for a lot of your problems'. 'Hooray!' I said, glad that he had diagnosed what the underlying trouble was, 'surely that is a simple matter to correct with a prescription of thyroid hormone'. 'Oh no, not at all. Your TSH score must go much higher than that for treatment,' he said, even though I was well above the 99th percentile of scores on the the thyroid stimulating hormone test (showing how my poor system was trying in vain to get my thyroid to produce much more of the hormone.) 'You mean I have to get much sicker first,' I said.  'Effectively, yes... Your TSH must be a lot higher than that for treatment, and even then you would only be given a very tiny dose to bring you within the limits of what is now considered acceptable. Too much replacement hormone could be dangerous. (Hah!) Was he not professionally autonomous? Could he not do the best he could for ME as an individual? He could not, and we parted company.

He had said that many medics believed that hypothyroidism was mainly a lot of middle aged women complaining over nothing very much, and endocrinologists as specialists, in particular, found it the least popular option to study, or have any dealings with preferring to deal with more glamourous thyroid cancer operations and suchlike, rather than chronic ill-health in the elderly, and had, as a profession, worked out the limits for hypothyroid treatment (fairly arbitrarily as I now believe) and had banded together to ostracise medics who didn't agree with them, so nobody dared put his head above the parapet any more, and one or two dissenters had even been struck off! Why this should be I do not know, as treatment is cheap as chips! I think it may be to do with the fear of patient power and patient choice. (fat chance) Medics like to tell patients what to do and have them do it! The overt misogyny is AMAZING and so is the ageism (most patients are older women) The cabal of endocrinologists and the 'one orthodox line' they promote and the persecution, no less, of any doctors who do not agree with it is shocking.

Suffice it to say that I happen to know several decent doctors socially, all senior now, two of whom gave me practical advice as to how to proceed and get treatment with the absolutely necessary, simple cheap medication, on condition I kept their advice secret and their names out of it. This is anonymous, so I don't feel I have dishonoured that promise.  I am now well, and have dumped ALL the medication given me to assit my coping with rather than curing the problem (all palliative and treating symptoms rather than the cause) and I just take the simple replacement for the thyroxine that I am no longer able to make in sufficient amounts.

It is a scandal waiting to break, but I doubt it ever will because the sufferers are mostly powerless, and often elderly and female, and those who do want to help them are professionally scuppered.

ADMIN... I put this as a reply to the Daily Mail article quoted. It is long. Should it be moved to a separate thread? It would probably be worth it, but I dont Know.

@ comperedna - sorry to hear your story and glad things are looking up now.  You`re right - it`s a scandal waiting to erupt and I`m so glad the Mail did a piece on it. It makes me so angry that the NHS is getting away with this ignorance.
I know this is probably on the wrong thread, but it is another example of the NHS and arrogant doctors ruining peoples` lives by not listening to their patients - its as if they have more rights over our bodies than we have.  I know they do a lot of good most of the time, but when they get it wrong, it`s devastating and in the case of hypothyroid its thousands of people.

I have just seen Tessa Jowles on the news reviews speaking about this wee lad being all alone in a hospital where they speak a different language for starters. yes most do, but all hospitals in the Malaga area have translators, they are also staffed by people, many who do speak english, but more important they are staffed by wonderful caring individuals and with the very best treatment re drugs/interventions/investigation not in that order but all important, that any sick person could wish for.
Spain is not a third world country.

perhaps someone who knows more about the law than me can answer just how did they get found and extradition procedures started in just 3 days????

There was a recent case of someone who was allegedly the biggest drug dealer/criminal in Europe, or so they said, and the operation took months of planning blah blah blah and "International Cooperation" to find some dude plugged up on the costa del crime for a few years.  Yet this family with an ill son were found in days, international warrants were issued, police in at least two, if not three or four countries cooperated, border forces, traffic police, local judiciary, all managed to work together, the CPS and their equivalents along with the upper echelons of the medical professions in two countries worked in perfect harmony to achieve lightening fast results.  Amazing!   We had the unedifying sight of a chief of police? trotting out cliches like his life depended on it.  "When it come to child safety etc etc"  "When the medical profession say a child is at risk we must all jump to attention blah blah"  Where the hell (wanted to say something else here) were all these wonderfully trained professionals when 1400 kids were being abused in Rotherham??  ******* ******** (Really want to sign off with swearing here) Answer, no where to be seen, so what's the difference?

ETA:   The family's fight-back against the medical and police dictators continues tonight with another video, posted by Ashya's elder brother - again worth a watch: link -

The parents are due in court tomorrow which is surrounded by armed police.

The British police and CPS issued a draconian European Arrest Warrant.

I do wonder if there is something going on that we are missing. For all the world I would be thinking our Government is trying to push for a mass protest on the streets to test their troops or they have tied us up with EU Regulations to the point where we live in a police state.

it all seems so unjust . People from Europe can come here and gain the treatement they need ?free too . Africa seems to be able to do it too.   Why cant we choose another country that may have better treatement ,especially as the father was trying to PAY  for it  . after watching father on u tube yesterday ,the reason the hospital was using ,was mainly the feeding device ,batteries would soon run out and all sorts of reasons . Then its shown on video ,there was no problem with said.. machine.   my heart aches for family ,and poor parents that are going to be back here ,and child still in spain ,no matter how short a time they are separated ,its too long . joyce1938

Re: MEDICAL ABUSE OF POWER in the case of 5-year-old ASHYA KING - An absolutely MUST WATCH 10-minute video made by the father last night in Malaga

Post by comperedna on 01.09.14 12:54

Yesterday the hospital in Southampton, where the boy was originally treated was back-tracking, saying that they had offered to get 'second opinions', and even that they would have given advice on travelling abroad for treatment not available in the UK, though they said that they did not believe the proton beam treatment the parents wanted would do any good.

This is NOT what the parents said happened. They said that the hospital threatened to get a court order to take away their parental powers if they did not accept what their particular specialists said. That is why they left without telling the hospital authorities, thus inadvertently precipitating the very court orders, police chases, and halt to effective treatment they feared.

There are obviously different views as to the kinds of brain cancers, and their currently developed extent in any particlar patient that are suitable for the proton beam's pinpoint accuracy and minimal damage to surrounding tissues kind of radio
therapy. The arrogance of the medics concerned in this case astounds me. Different medics might have come to different conclusions. They said 'jump' and the family were supposed to answer 'how high', but they were articulate, had done their homework, and realized that in dealing with this kind of childhood brain cancer not all professional opinions are the same. Perhaps they might have got better support if they had consulted a private paediatric oncologist, who might not have felt a need to 'close ranks' when communication and trust completely broke down. These parents were prepared to pay for their choice of treatment themselves, if the Czech proton beam therapy unit believed it could help, and had gone to sell their holiday flat to raise the money for it.

I agree with what Ashya's grandmother asked... where were her family's 'human rights'.

You've probably already seen it on the news but the family were staying at a hotel about 20 minutes drive from Malaga and the hotel staff recognised them from the TV news and contacted the police.

The extradition order most probably started as soon as it was realised that Ashya had been taken out of the hospital and the family were seen on a ferry going to France.

What an horrendous experience for himself and his family, hunted down like animals as if they had committed a crime such as an armed bank robbery or murder.  Even real criminals don't get this heavy handed treatment but are treated with kid gloves.

The poor boy is now stuck in a Spanish hospital on his own, although I believe his oldest brother has been given visiting rights this afternoon.  I can't believe the way the authorities have gone about this, arresting the parents and taking them to court.

Totally, totally unbelievable.

And the comments under the video go on for pages and pages, in support of the family.

Apart from the obvious paid shills, the sense of outrage against the authoritarian police state action is very strong and there is great sadness that Ashya and his siblings are being forced apart from their parents at a time when family support is so essential.

One commenter even pointed out the the Southampton General Hospital had been singled out for bad service /shortage of doctors etc. in a government report on several occasions in the last year or so.

A truly shocking, menacing and shameful state of affairs. All strength, power and courage to the parents, siblings and little Ashya.

Thanks for breaking it down Newintown appreciated, like most of us been following this from start.  Still just astonished the full weight of the judiciary was brought to bear in a couple of days yet there seems total inertia over years in some investigations into csa.  "hunted down like animals as if they had committed a crime such as an armed bank robbery or murder" I agree, where is this sort to expediency when its a rapist, murderer or child interferer??  No such rush to apply the law to bankers who defrauded the economy, or government contractors who fleece the tax payer for billions.  Thoughts are of course with the boy and his family hoping for a speedy resolution.

This morning I tried to view Ashya's dad's YouTube video but my YouTube app its not working. I went onto google and was surprised by how difficult it is to locate. In the end I watched it through the link on this forum. I noticed that the google search results have been modified under European law. Does this mean someone has had the video removed from the search results? I'd be interested to know if others find the same... Searched for ashya king video.

This is a disgrace - I signed the petition yesterday and shared it on facebook.  It's not as they are able to provide life-saving treatment - all they are offering is palliative care anyway - and there's every chance that the proton treatment his parents are seeking would be a better option.  What a pity that the medical establishment/social services hadn't intervened in such a drastic way in the case of Baby Peter, to give but one example.  They might actually have suceeded in saving a life ...
